@JohnDMacari @TheFinestCast Arrests like these happen a lot without any issues. But as I always say.... It doesn't matter till it matters, and unfortunately for the cops this one was recorded by someone else and it matters.

John D. Macari Jr. 🇺🇸🗽
Let’s have “the talk” I grew up in New York City, Bensonhurst, then Dongan Hills on Staten Island. My teenage years lined up with Rudy Giuliani coming into office and the NYPD leaning into Broken Windows policing. I wasn’t a fan of the police. Neither were any of the male influences in my life, my friends, my family and even my father included. At 11 years old, I got arrested. That started a stretch of me hanging out in the streets, having more and more run ins with the NYPD. When my father picked me up from the station, he didn’t give me a speech he gave me a beating, and then he told me something more important: “Don’t ever be a wise guy with the cops.” As I got older, and bigger he kept repeating it, not because he loved the police, but because he understood the reality of those encounters. One summer night, I was 15, sitting on my stoop waiting for an older girl I was dating to pick me up. Two cops and a sergeant in plainclothes pulled up in an unmarked car and started asking me questions. I immediately started acting irate and began mouthing off. They threw me against the car, searched me, and eventually let me go. After the sergeant actually tried to give me advice how to handle a police encounter and how to keep it calm. I ignored him and kept running my mouth. What I didn’t know was my father saw and heard the whole thing. He came flying out of the house: “Are you fing stupid? You’re gonna get yourself locked up or killed for no reason” He told me It doesn’t matter if you broke the law or not, stay calm, If they tell you to put your hands behind your back, do it. “keep your mouth shut and we’ll deal with it later in court. Then he said something I’ll never forget “You’re a man now. Start acting like one.” That night didn’t change me instantly but it stayed with me. From that point on, I never mouthed off to the police again. I never refused an order in the streets, from the NYPD again. The encounters, kept happening growing up in NYC, it was a part of life, but those encounters never turned into major problems because I was able through my demeanor to deescalate the situation. A few years later, leaving a bar on Staten Island, unmarked cars boxed me and my friends in. Plainclothes officers jumped out guns drawn shouting commands. We followed their directions, they questioned us and frantically left us, it appeared to me that they were looking for armed suspects. What If I was still that same kid on the stoop? That situation would’ve gone very differently for all of us. Are cops perfect? No Do they make mistakes? Yes Are some of them Dicks? Yes It’s a tough, dangerous job, every encounter has the potential to go sideways fast, why make it worse? My father didn’t give me “the talk” most people would expect but he gave me the one that keeps you alive: I was arrested 2x’s in my youth, I was stopped by the NYPD countless times, the incident that occurred in the liquor store in Brooklyn would have been a non issue if it was me who was mistakenly stopped because I would have followed my fathers advice. Take my father’s advice, it works, I know, it kept me alive and out of jail. Rest In Peace John D. Macari Sr

Those images are flat out wrong. No excuse. But if this was in a private chat, we need to have an honest conversation. Where does personal speech end and professional accountability begin? Because if there’s no line, then there’s no privacy for anyone. #Thefinestunfiltered

As bad as NYC’s District Attorney’s are, they are no where near as radical as NY Judges are. Many judges like Police managers are also Politically appointed. Elections matter. The two rulings below are from the same judge, 2 very different sentences.

@JohnDMacari Johnny boy, no one is demanding change at protests because no one died. That's how it is in most places, it doesn't matter till it matters. If no one gets killed in that intersection due to speeding or blowing red lights, then you will never see a cop there.

And the only reason this did not happen is sheer luck. Getting lucky is NYC’s new counterterrorism strategy at protests. When we get lucky, we will myth build heroes out of undeserving, incompetent and politicized NYPD management. When we don’t get lucky and people are unnecessarily killed, we will myth build heroes out of undeserving, incompetent and politicized NYPD management. NYC needs experienced, non politicized public safety strategies, that include, counterterrorism measures and resources deployed at everything including protests where violence or large crowds are expected. Tell me why we deploy these strategies and resources at other mass gatherings like New Year’s Eve and the Thanksgiving Day parade but shouldn’t at a protest. If we continue down this road the Mayor and his politically appointed NYPD management team will have blood on their hands. The legacy media and other public safety professionals across the country are complicit. Why is no one but myself demanding the NYPD immediately change its protest posture?

New York has seen this pattern before. In 1998, Kenneth Banks died after former NYPD Officer Craig Yokemick threw a two-pound police radio at his head during a Harlem pursuit. Years later, Yokemick was sentenced to prison for violating Banks’s civil rights. Now the city is confronting a modern version of the same disgrace. NYPD Sergeant Erik Duran was convicted of manslaughter in the death of Eric Duprey after, according to the reported account already provided, he hurled a cooler at Duprey during a Bronx pursuit. And even after that conviction, more than 11,000 law-enforcement officers reportedly signed a petition asking that Duran receive no prison sentence. The record provided here also shows that Duran’s history was not blank. It reflects a substantiated abuse-of-authority stop allegation resulting in Command Discipline A, a prior discipline case for wrongfully stopping an individual known to the Department, multiple CCRB complaints, and civil lawsuit settlements. That is why public distrust runs so deep. And the truth is, I actually feel sorry for Sergeant Duran, because this was "avoidable!" This did not have to end with a dead civilian, a manslaughter conviction, and a public campaign begging for mercy. It could have ended with discipline, restraint, and lawful judgment. It could have ended with an officer following the limits that police training and constitutional policing are supposed to impose. Instead, it ended with Eric Duprey dead and the public once again being asked to sympathize first with the officer who caused the death. That inversion is exactly why trust keeps collapsing. Police training is supposed to mean something. It is supposed to teach officers that frustration is not authority, improvisation is not lawful force, and a hard object is not a tool of constitutional policing. Yet after all of this, the institutional response from thousands was not to reaffirm those limits. It was to defend the conduct and protest the consequences. Craig Yokemick should have been a lesson. Erik Duran shows the lesson still has not been learned. And until departments, unions, and police leadership stop treating accountability as the real injustice, the public will continue to draw the only conclusion left available: the institution is still more committed to protecting its own than protecting the people it serves. That is not a messaging problem. That is an accountability problem. #NYPD #PoliceAccountability #CivilRights #UseOfForce #PublicTrust #PoliceReform #Justice #ErikDuran #EricDuprey

Lol . . . YOU said that my Grandfather was on the MEXICAN side. Now, YOU claim that I thought my Grandfather was in the Alamo, as a Defender. YOU have my Grandfather, on BOTH sides! (Is my Grandfather in a Superposition?) The TRUTH is, I ain’t Mexican. The last time my ancestors were in Mexico was probably about ten thousand years ago. And, I wasn’t born in the United States, either. I was born in SOUTH AMERICA. Mexican territory doesn’t extend that far South.

I was at a company picnic one time. I was manning a county-park grill. A vegan/halal co-worker wanted some food. I SCRUBBED my arm off, DOUSED the grill in cleaner, and burned it to a crisp. The co-worker GRACIOUSLY allowed it as adequate... Until ANOTHER co-worker piled on a bunch of "non-halal" (pork) meat, because it was an available grill. I BEGGED him to stop, but he kept going, CLUELESS. My Halal co-worker moved on/got side dishes,. but I've never forgotten this. The other co-worker was a friend, but I should have body-checked him, into the next decade.

We just had a terrorist attack at a protest in NYC. And Socialist Councilman Chi Ossé is still pushing to remove NYPD counterterrorism units from protests. Mass gatherings are soft targets. That’s not my opinion it’s a reality we just witnessed. This will unnecessarily endanger innocent life as it will leave a mass gathering which is a soft target vulnerable to acts of terrorism. The NYPD’s counterterrorism resources must be deployed to soft targets including first amendment activities !
Chi Ossé@OsseChi

New Yorkers should be able to protest without fear of violence from the NYPD. It’s time the CURB Act gets a hearing. @NYCLU

Meet Chicago Democrat and 49th Ward Alderwoman Maria Hadden, who pretty much blamed Sheridan Gorman for her own murder: “The kids were out doing normal things people do in the neighborhood. And it sounds like this might have been a wrong-place, wrong-time situation, running into a person who had a gun. They might have unintentionally startled this person at the end of the pier.” THESE PEOPLE ARE SICK!
