At that level of maths genius it probably is reasonably hard to function normally . It’s more than smart. It’s a useful abnormality. Smart people are fine.

Higher IQ people tend to be less socially isolated and more socially successful. They're more likely to be married and in communities. The idea they're worse off in the social realm feels like something social failures believe as a means of coping: 'It's just that I'm so smart!'

And the Liberal Party’s problem is… We are in the One Big Thing diagnosis phase of the Liberal election loss of last week. Everybody is choosing the issue that matters to them as the reason why the Liberals lost. If you didn’t like the nuclear policy, it’s nuclear. If you don’t like Dutton, it’s Dutton. The Coalition was either too Labor-lite or too conservative, depending on which media you listen to. If you are champion of more women in the Liberal Party, they didn’t have enough to win, or policies to win them with; if young people are your focus, the loss was a result of failure to appeal to them. I thought their economic policies sucked - that’s my “one big thing”. But then there was also poor data and a weak and often confused campaign. None of these things alone explains the Liberal’s unexpectedly crushing loss. Solving one of these things - possibly your pet issue - won’t change all the others. They say more about the individuals naming them than about the real issues. Each deserves to be discussed, but not isolated in the diagnosis stage. Which is why I’m finding the grandstanding a crashing bore.

@chester_fence @Docstockk 2/2 the principle of sanctity of life is regarded as illegitimate because it is a fundamentally religious idea. Therefore the chief guiding principle for secular bioethics is respect for autonomy, tempered by the obligation to protect vulnerable people from exploitation.

I really wonder what the ethical/philosophical underpinnings of these issues are? Is it radical autonomy? But why then are so many who push things like trans/assisted suicide for fairly left wing economic policies that run counter to radical autonomy. Or is it just that nothing means anything to them anymore. Like sex is irrelevant, there is nothing special about being alive. These are such soul-less ideologies, I really don't get it..

This is quite incredible. 110m+ views on a rocket in a matter of hours. My wife and I just watched it. There are problems with it but there’s also serious issues raised that need to be discussed. Simply smearing it as “transphobic” and attempting to censor it isn’t an option anymore.
