Physics teachers. I would be interested to read what you think of this method for rearranging equations. Might be useful for those pupils who struggle with it. Better than triangles but would examiners have an issue with the method? 🤔

Would anyone have a really solid lesson explaining lenses and ray diagram for AQA Separate Physics? My top sets are struggling with the ray diagrams in particular? @Hookean1@ChatPhysics
@ScienceSkool@Hookean1 The zoom workshops run by my colleague David Farley would be a good start - details for the next few sessions will be in the next update.
@Hookean1 Hi, I was wondering if you are aware of any resources/ske/cpd that would be aimed at supporting and or training a non physics specialist to teach Alevel physics? I can find a lot geared towards gcse but not alevel. Thanks so much!
@MarshallPhysics@Hookean1@ScienceAlan I've applied for the stimulating physics network but not sure how long it takes to be approved. Deadline is 1st Nov so may be too late!
@ScienceSkool@Hookean1 A good way to start is to follow the student route before you start. Get a series of workbooks e.g. cgp ready for A Level, year 1, year 2 read the notes and do the questions. Study mark schemes; look at required language and be careful to stick to it when explaining.
@ScienceSkool@Hookean1 We’ve sent staff to events at York university at the Stem centre stem.org.uk great for in person networking and support as well. They do new to A Level courses.
@joon_of It won't happen but I think the NEU should be pushing to change values of TLRs. They have been the same for many many years and should also have moved with inflation.
@WRBdB@m_chiles On the back of this. Do you feel being head of a large department (sci, maths and eng) limits progression into SLT internally? Recruitment issues being the reason and the loss of those teachers in the classroom?
@m_chiles The one I don't often see and should be possible is the head of a large department going to be a deputy head without being an assistant head first.
Assistant head and head of a large department is often on similar pay (and responsibility - depending how you define that.)
Is it unusual for an Assistant Head to apply for a Headteacher role?
Anyone seen this happen or been the person who’s done it?
Also, is it more common with the new Head of School roles?
@RogersHistory I applied for a head of department job against the internal candidate, and got the job *shrugs*. So not always how you expect them to go.
Random thought - Number of days/hours wasted by schools appointing an internal candidate for a job that they always intended to but inviting loads of external peeps for intensive interview: countless.
@DirkTrauner I have statistics for for this for over 900 chemists. I should publish that. :-D Here are the most common ways. @TehshikYoon and @science_ari use the same method as I do. Fun fact: almost 60% start on the left top, another 30% on the top.
@gruffyth@AndrewT28044364@BeckettUnite I'd say at least 60% of university degrees do not factor in employment decision making. Around 80% of graduates do not work in their area of study for more than 10 yrs. Thus most degrees are a waste of time and money and unproductive for society. Universities need to offer more.
Since the war in Ukraine began the Tories have taken the opportunity to quietly announce £5bl cuts in the NHS budget; a life long graduate tax of £100k plus for students; and the end of any spending to support industry.
@CeliaHeyes@CeliaHeyes this photo is absolutely stunning. I would love to enlarge this and put it in my living room. Odd request but if you were happy to send the original I would be really grateful. Alex
