One of my goals on entering this job almost a year ago was to foster relations with the amazing republics of Central Asia, which are rich in history, culture, and human and natural resources. Under the leadership of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio, we've exceeded my expectations; there is now deep economic and security cooperation with the region and excellent personal relations. In this context, I was delighted to welcome Abdulaziz Kamilov, Advisor to @president_uz Mirziyoyev, and his distinguished delegation today to discuss shared priorities including counterterrorism, investment, and migration. Very valuable to hear the perspective from this part of the world! 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇿

Great to be here in Sri Lanka and meet with President @AnuraDisanayake. We discussed advancing our trade relationship through increased U.S. investment, new commercial opportunities, and expanding Sri Lanka’s ports sector—building momentum in our economic partnership and deepening the friendship between our countries.

Special Envoy Gor joined Sri Lanka Navy Chief of Staff Rear Admiral Damian Fernando aboard SLNS GAJABAHU, a former @USCG cutter now in @SriLanka_Navy service, symbolizing the strength of our longstanding maritime partnership. The fourth former U.S. Coast Guard cutter – ex-DECISIVE—now undertaking its Pacific journey to Sri Lanka, will further expand our maritime security partnership and regional cooperation.

We are pleased to welcome Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Sergio Gor to Sri Lanka. Special Envoy Gor will meet with senior leaders, including with President Dissanayake @anuradisanayake, to strengthen the U.S.-Sri Lanka relationship and to reaffirm U.S. support for Sri Lanka’s sovereignty. From maritime security to strategic investments and commercial deals, we see immense opportunity to deepen ties.

Sri Lanka offers significant untapped opportunities for the U.S. private sector in Sri Lanka, including in the ports, energy, aviation, and digital sectors. Special Envoy Gor met with key economic leaders to explore how to unlock the full potential of our economic partnership and business ties.

Met with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to discuss deepening U.S.-Bhutan partnership and opportunities tied to the Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative. Bhutan’s forward-looking vision creates new space for investment, innovation, and cooperation with the United States.

Today, I am designating Afghanistan as a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention. The Taliban continue to use terrorist tactics to seek policy concessions, but it won’t work under this administration. The Taliban must release Dennis Coyle, Mahmood Habibi, and all Americans unjustly detained in Afghanistan.

Good morning from Thimphu! It’s great to be in Bhutan for my first visit and I look forward to advancing the U.S.-Bhutan partnership and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between our two nations.
