Spencer Pratt on LA’s drastic NGO problem: “They will take $100M and steal it right in your face.” David Friedberg: “Can you explain what goes on with these NGOs? Like, how do NGOs create a system that the more we spend, and in the last 10 years, the City of Los Angeles, I think, has increased homeless spending by 10X, and the homeless population has doubled, and clearly it's gotten a lot worse. What's the role that the NGOs actually play in this?” Spencer Pratt: “First off, when you said homeless is 2x, homeless is 200x. When Mayor Bass in the debate was like, “It's down 17%,” these are the most cooked numbers. Even the RAND Corporation says it's a 30% increase. But they just drive around and they go, “One, two, three, four, five, six.” They're not going in under these encampments, and bridges, and bushes, and unzipping these tents, and going into the sewers. So we don't even know the count. But let me tell you my first experience with NGOs. After the Palisades fire, FireAid, $100 million raised. Every single person I talked to messaging me, “No one's getting this money. No one's seeing a dollar.” I go to Washington, I ask senators to investigate this. We open up a case. Now all of a sudden, FireAid puts out a legal letter to defend themselves. In their own legal letter from the law firm, they say, “Several of these NGOs gave directly to fire victims.” The list for the $100 million is 200+ (NGOs). Google “several.” It's under 10. So even in their defense, they're telling you, and again, I don't believe one of those, 10 gave directly. The people that they said did, they're like, “We gave gift cards.” Who'd you give gift cards to? You don’t think one fire victim, they're messaging me all day long, said, “Hey, I got a $500 gift card.” So that's when I learned firsthand that these NGOs will take, right in your face, $100 million and just steal it.” @friedberg @spencerpratt --------------------------------------- Thanks to our partner Axon.ai for making this possible Most advertisers have never heard of the platform with an $11B annual run rate in ad spend. How does LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt feel about being compared to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani? While acknowledging that Mamdani's promise of free buses bears some similarities to his own pledge of cleaner and safer public transportation if elected, Pratt says the socialist message would never work in LA. "I think he connected with people because they felt like change. They wanted change," he told CBS News' @adamyamaguchi. "That message would never connect here because we've already been doing the socialist experiment, pretty much, for six plus years, and it's failed here in Los Angeles."

@JTLonsdale @Jason_A_Scharf @johnrea The beauty of Austin is that a lot of this riff raff is silo’ed into downtown, East Cesar Chavez, and South Congress with some bleeding into Riverside. East Austin is a gem that isn’t terribly expensive and mostly quiet of the cesspool that is downtown

@johnrea It’s not time to give up on Austin. The state can crack down on it to fix it, and the electorate can wake up as they did on the homeless camping policy. This is a boomtown seat of the capitol of Texas - it’s worth fighting for. That said, we do live outside of downtown for now!

It's incredibly sad to see what the 'easy on crime' policies have done to Austin. My wife and I have decided to move, and a huge part of that is that the people running this city care more about violent criminals than the safety of our children. For shame to every one of you who voted for and supported these policies. Have fun with your cesspool once the rest of the productive economic base leaves too.
Joe Lonsdale@JTLonsdale

We could jail a small number of criminals in every blue city and massively reduce crime, making everyone safer. But the left thinks it’s racist to enforce the law. So we all suffer. If your windshield was smashed, or your family hurt by a repeat offender, how would you feel?

@SoniaBaschez On a national scale, no, but locally? We’ve watched it already happen with Tesla moving here due to tax and gov reasons. Now we have drastically increased our ecosystem since.

@SoniaBaschez SpaceX still has a decent presence in El Segundo I believe. I wonder if they’ll figure out a way to get those folks to Texas residents before completing the deal

@SoniaBaschez Does it though? This will find itself being utilized for the next gen of companies here, new facilities (prop taxes), and new homes (more prop taxes)

Apparently some insane dude was chunking massive rocks off of an overpass at cars on the highway that I drive to/from from work. This dude clearly belongs in an institution. And likely should never come out. It’s the humane thing for him and for society.

Lately, mine has been that we can’t build the cities that we want to build without law and order. And that includes the everpresent issues that plague our cities caused by heavily drugged and/or severely mentally disabled homeless populations. Involuntary rehabilitation and/or institutionalization are going to have to be a part of solving this. I find it abhorrent that our society has decided that it’s ok to just watch these people rot in the streets instead of getting them the help they deserve as HUMAN BEINGS.

"Living in Dallas is the worst." I moved my business here 12 years ago: My kids are in a 10/10 school district. I live on 3 acres with no HOA and I'm only 30 mins from downtown Dallas and 35 mins from DFW airport. I'm within 45 minutes of a 6 different pro sports teams. Every band and touring musical travels here. Countless amazing restaurants. My property has appreciated by over $1m in a decade I'm buying more land 30 mins away in the path of growth for only $12k/acre I can fly direct to Dubai, Bozeman, basically anywhere. No state income taxes. The more you make, the more you save. Strong Christian/LDS family values. Tons of Indians (awesome people BTW). Cheap contractors. VERY pro business. Pretty freaking hot weather but ice cold A/C. :) Youth sports culture is kinda out of control. Property taxes will murder you NGL. Don't like it? Don't move here. I've lived in Houston, too and boy let me tell you...We've got it good here.
Chris Koerner@mhp_guy

I’ve always wanted to circumnavigate DFW via bike, so today I did. Some casual observations about things I saw, did & thought: - N. Dallas is nice, Ft. Worth is nice, and everything in between was very meh - I had a bike lane about 4% of the time - Arlington and Grand Prairie have nothing but auto salvage yards, used appliances, enough Class B - F industrial to make @fortworthchris blush, and a few really nice stadiums - The suburbs are underrated - Name another city with not one, but two world class, clean, organized airports. I rode by both. - The people most likely to sideswipe me are 30-50 year old white soccer moms in minivans and dads in massive trucks (Note: you won’t get there any faster by risking my life) - Aside from the occasional accidental highway detour, and some shady neighborhoods, I felt pretty safe the whole time - I hit the wall at mile 64 but some Doritos and sour punch straws bailed me out by 73 - Maybe the nicest weather day in 5 months - 10-15 MPH Headwind for the last 50 miles wasn’t pleasant - Ft. Worth is classy. Real southern charm. Other cool things I rode by: - Texas State Fair - @HeimBBQ (get the hatch green chili Mac & cheese) - Cowboys & Rangers stadiums (so nice) - 27 auto salvage yards - Manheim auto auctions - 17 shady Ft Worth ambulance chaser billboards - 6 Flags - 7 Chipotles I know cyclists look dumb and hey, we feel dumb, too. But hop on a bike sometime and you’ll see why we do it. Thanks for reading. DFW is pretty cool.
