I was trying to explain to someone yesterday why women defend single-sex spaces. “Imagine you were forced into an enclosed space with a strange man and told to take your top off in front of him. No choice. ⚠️⚖️ SENTENCING TODAY Four men are due to be sentenced today for the r-pe and sexual exploitation of a 16YO girl in Birmingham. Arqash Zaffar, aged 41, of was found guilty of five counts of r-pe, causing the child to engage in sexual activity without consent on four occasions and also facilitating travel with a view to sexually exploit the child. Shiraz Nassir, 40, was found guilty of r-pe. Mohammed Nadim, 45, was found guilty of sexual assault. Shaban Arif, 42, was found guilty of facilitating travel of the child with a view of sexual exploitation. They are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court today.

This is a very odd post from a Conservative who says he believes in freedom of expression under law and is a principal spokesman of the Free Speech Union. I appreciate that he does not like Islam and there is no reason why he should. As a Christian it is not my faith. But the use of Trafalgar Square ( with permission) for religious events Christian and other goes back a long way. There have been prayers and hymns, chants and religious events performed there in the past. If such an event 'shouldn't happen again' it raises the question of whether this is to apply to all religious events or just to Muslim ones. If to all, then we are moving like France to imposing secularism as a norm and it is contrary to our national tradition and does not seem to have helped develop social cohesion there.If just to Muslims then it is an act of discrimination against them without any lawful basis. To achieve it you would have to enact discriminatory legislation targeted at Muslims. Is this what Nick Timothy is advocating ?

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

Nathaniel Spencer, from Hockley, Birmingham, is accused of 45 sexual offences against 38 female patients at Royal Stoke University Hospital and Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, between 2017 and 2021. Some of the patients over whom he is accused were under 13 at the time of the alleged offences. Spencer spoke only to confirm his name and was not required to enter pleas during the 45-minute hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday. The defendant will return to court for another pre-trial hearing at a date to be fixed. Spencer was charged in December after what Staffordshire Police said had been a complex investigation into alleged sexual assaults on patients. He faces 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, three counts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and one count of attempted assault by penetration. Renewing Spencer's conditional bail, the Recorder of Stoke-on-Trent, Judge Sally Hancox told the court it was not practical for the trial in the case to take place in the city. She said she had spoken with those in charge of the Midlands court circuit in seeking a suitable location for the trial and told Spencer: "At the next hearing further consideration will be given to the location, timing and timetable of the trial, and if necessary arraignment will take place."
