@l8x_m0xy @falco_girgis Stock DC ram feels like a big issue, Doom3 has some quite complex environments. A plus there though is how the modding accessibility of that game means all the source assets are easily accessible so someone made enough could do optimising on them.

@falco_girgis One of the things that I was always curious about: How well could someone get doom3 to run on these devices? There are versions of it for old voodoo cards (vertex lighting, no dynamic shadows), and the xbox port. Maybe vertex lighting + stencil shadows could look pretty good?

Ever wondered what Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would look like on a Sega Dreamcast? Well, look no further than this direct hardware from Esppiral! Not content with proving the DC could mess around with PS2 poly counts, he's testing the waters with Wii games, currently... and little bit of jank and pop-in aside, considering this has come with zero asset changes or engine optimizations specific to this title, I'm extremely impressed with how she's performing! Be sure to check out the full video and subscribe to Esppiral on YouTube, so you can encourage him to keep working to correct the timeline of gaming history: youtube.com/watch?v=EvvFVz….

Before ➡️ after I had a bolt from the Falcon-9 rocket that flew me to space made into my husband’s wedding ring Here’s the story- SpaceX gave me this plaque after my mission. After Ryan and I got engaged I got the idea for the ring and brought the bolt to a local jeweler. They said they couldn’t melt it (not surprising that space hardware isn’t easy to melt 😉). I then brought it to the Memphis Metal Museum where a metalsmith was able to forge it into this ring. The ring is entirely made of the bolt metal. I also got a ring made for myself :) I was so happy to share this piece of me with Ryan, and he’s thrilled with his ring 🥰

@chris_corb75697 @MikeNellis LGBTQI people exist, their lives and freedom matters, and in the case of the government's putting them up, they support and recognise their rights and reject bigotry against them. They will quickly disappear within a generation when social conservatives stop attacking them

I just learned Idaho Republicans banned the Pride flag, so Boise officials painted their flagpoles in Pride colors as an act of protest. That's a fantastic act of protest.

@preem1nent @purplepingers How is he making a loss? Seems like he is gaining much more than 10,400 a year in a assets. What you describe as loss is more accurately the landlord buying a house.

@purplepingers Generally interested in what makes you think there are "Massive tax discounts"? He loses $200 a week, lets say at 52 week a year he loses $10,400 (assuming interest only loan). I'm not even counting rates here, when tax time comes he can claim $10,400 back? Where's the discount?

The average landlord being like why do these rentoids get mad at me when I feel entitled enough to pass on the full cost of my investment to them (whilst simultaneously increasing the cost of housing and also benefitting from massive tax discounts purely because I own multiple homes)

@falco_girgis @Spiders_STG I work as part of a studio that does a lot of modern day commercial ports to hardware that is less capable on paper. I think what you are doing with the DC is rad as heck and inspirational.

You totally misunderstand how creative this kind of shit really is and are only judging a book by its cover, because I assume you aren't a software engineer or a technical person, but... Don't you think that if some rag-tag group of punkasses is able to suddenly push a piece of hardware further than the multimillion dollar company with deep pockets and direct lines of communication to chip vendors ever could, that just maybe it's because of their creativity and ingenuity in learning and discovering new ways to push the hardware? Calling a tech demo like is "uncreative" just because of the assets that were chosen is ridiculous. This is showing off an ENGINE that geniuses in our community created out of nothing, with no commercial tools, no funding, and no help. They could've literally loaded any other model into the engine and recorded a video of it, and you wouldn't have complained at all. But nope. They made the mistake of choosing an insanely complex scene that pushed a console to its limits that was said to be immensely more powerful than the DC was... and because of that, you're deeming their work as somehow lacking of creativity? lol.

Made the "news" lol For the record, I think homebrew coding and making new tools for old hardware is awesome. However... if the result is "what if" vibe-ports of beloved games to right the wrongs of the Console Warz, I do think it's creatively bankrupt nostalgia-pilling. Sorry!

@Uhfgood @beforesmag @ILMVFX It's always cool when something you don't think is CG like the raft turns out to be. Similar to how the overturned CG car in the original Jurassic Park is probably the most surprising effects shot in the film.

@Jaboolie @blauskiii American tourists have a stereotype of being loud (but as a joint UK/Australian citizen I would have them beat!) but don't tend to have a bad reputation otherwise. The mere fact they are travelling overseas already makes them less likely to be the insular types.

@blauskiii The whole "Americans are disdained abroad" was always liberal wishful thinking. The notion that they'd go abroad and be seen as greater than everyone else was/is irresistible to them.

You all know I love old movies. So I was rewatching Air Force One (Harrison Ford) and something hit me. Today, the wildest part of that movie is the opener. Imagine trying to explain to someone who has no memory of the 90's that there really was a time when the idea of US and Russian special forces teaming up to give the Maduro treatment to an ex-Soviet Republic Dictator wasn't a completely insane plot point.

@jjbolter @persnikkidi They need to have enough seats for lifeboats home if there's an emergency. Even when they didn't want to risk Starliner if they could avoid it they kept it docked for potential lifeboat use until after a replacement Dragon arrived.

For the first time in the 25-year history of the International Space Station, we’ve had a serious enough medical emergency in space to bring a crew home early. Big decision by @nasa leadership, with multiple domino impacts on operations, but I’m glad to see, as always, crew health and safety come first. The Station will be more vulnerable until the replacement crew of 4 can launch, but we have deep experience running the place with just 3 astronauts for a while. I hope the ill crew member gets safely home to full treatment, and has a speedy recovery.

@bobo_circus @vidyarrrr It feels like a trap. Disney establishing a value for their IP to AI firms, setting a precedent that license deals can exist. This sets them up to legally pursue other services where many of the arguments on why AI services need to use content without permission are kneecapped.

Automa is coming soon on #Quest3. A story-driven action-adventure built exclusively for #VR, centered on exploration within an atmospheric, highly detailed, and deeply interactive world filled with beauty, mystery, and danger. 💭 Inspired by the best of immersive VR design —where believable physics and intuitive interactions lead to emergent, player-driven moments. 🥽 Meta Quest 2 & 3 (currently running at ~90 FPS on Quest 3/3S). 📜 Story Summary: Set in a near-future, realistic modern world where fears of AI misalignment are becoming reality. Autonomous forces have seized control of a Southeast Asian city. You’ve made a deal to protect your family—but at what cost, and what will they ask of you next ? 🔥🔥🔥
