Speaks for itself: Feb. 25, 2026: “We are not developing long-range missiles… we have limited the range below 2,000 kilometers” — Iran’s FM Araghchi (IRNA). March 20, 2026: Iran fires missiles at Diego Garcia—ranging 4,000 kilometers (WSJ). ⬇️

@TVietor08 Iran isn't getting any money from this unless it's already been paid in a contract. This simply releases oil that's already in tankers on the water.

These fucking morons are allowing Iran to get $14 billion in the middle of a war against them. This is the biggest, dumbest concession ever given to Iran by the US and all you need to know about what a disaster Trump’s policy is.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

Will somebody please explain to me how, with the Strait of Hormuz a no-go-zone for the U.S. Navy, and our warships driven out of the Persian Gulf, we can support a USMC amphibious landing on Kharg Island, 750 miles from the eastern tip of Oman?🧵 Is the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group going to storm into the Persian Gulf, where our Burke-class destroyers won't go? Obviously not. This idea is insane. How about by helo and tilt-rotor? Out of range. What if they stage in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia for helo and Osprey lifts across the Gulf? Russia and China will tell Iran where to aim their drones and missiles while the force is assembling. Maybe a mass paradrop? Straight into an "Alamo" siege. Great idea. Not. What if the Marines just capture some of those "small" islands in the Strait of Hormuz? Qeshm is bigger than Okinawa. Larak is bigger than Iwo Jima. Any idea how many Marines and Soldiers it took to conquer just those 2 islands, at what cost in KIA and WIA? I keep reading absolute MORONS on X telling how some A-10s are "softening up" an area larger than South Vietnam, so that a few thousand Marines can attack and hold . . . what? It's as if space aliens studying only still images had no sense of scale of earth creatures, and thought a mouse could eat an elephant. It boggles my mind.

@tiberiusfiles Fortunately the A-10 has two vertical stabilizers, two engines, and two laundry rooms. If it loses one it can continue the mission.

The Shahed drone fly 200 - 1000 feet. Iranian drones are pre programmed to a target. The A-10 flying at 300 knots @ 15,000 feet is not a stationary target. Drones can't fight aircraft. The A-10 will kill the drone launchers, the trucks that delivery them, the soldiers that attempt to launch them

@sethjlevy This is a new day. It’s not combatant vs combatant. A10s and Apaches aren’t defenses against drone swarms.

@gbrew24 How exactly are our ships gonna get there? They have to sail through the Straits, through the same enemy fire which caused the Abe Lincoln to retreat. Pentagon has obviously been playing too much Battlefield 3.

Two things: -US plan to take Kharg will only be feasible after another "month" of bombing. -the idea is to force Iran to capitulate by using Kharg as a bargaining chip; I have a pretty strong gut feeling that's not going to work. axios.com/2026/03/20/ira…

@gbrew24 A gut feeling, really. Based on what exactly? The absolute stunning success the US has had up till now? Since that island controls 90% of Iran's oil wealth, why in the world would it not be an effective bargaining chip?

@gbrew24 Look at how Iran responded to bombing one gas field. How will they respond to seizing Kharg? The administration does not seem to think through second order consequences.

@NickSzabo4 @gbrew24 Yeah, the US is going to send in the Marines. They'll probably take Larak. Maybe Qeshm too.

This article has it backwards. First the US takes the straights of Hormuz and neutralizes Qeshm island. The A-10 and Apache eliminate any remaining small vessels that Iran has on shore or puts into the water. Fast attack boats are basically stationary to the A-10. At night on the cool water they might as well be disco balls of light to the A-10 targeting systems. Once that is secured you can either take Kharg from the UAE or possibly sail the Tripoli through the straights unchallenged at that point. Kharg isn't a vast island of caves. Iranian troops are sitting ducks out there. They have no support or resupply.

@GlobalReportNow The sheer amount of grass and weeds off the flightline here tells you this photo is not from the Middle East. I was there for months and never saw a blade of grass on our bases there.
