@BarelyPortable @gbrew24 Tehran has lost all control.
Iran is defeated. Soon even the low IQ like you will understand.
English

Two things:
-US plan to take Kharg will only be feasible after another "month" of bombing.
-the idea is to force Iran to capitulate by using Kharg as a bargaining chip; I have a pretty strong gut feeling that's not going to work. axios.com/2026/03/20/ira…
English

@BarelyPortable @gbrew24 What can Iran do if the US takes Kharg? They can't attack Kharg. They can't risk losing it by attacking Qatar again.
English

I've read so much macro / geopolitical analysis that the strategy of the Trump admin is to focus its resources on the pacific, let Europe fend for itself and get out of the Middle East.
Instead they're now blowing up the whole world to refocus everything into another disastrous middle east conflict.
English

America’s foreign policy toward Southeast Asia under Trump has been:
1. Slap them with the some of the highest tariff rates in the world
2. Launch Section 301 investigations of their trade practices
3. Create a global energy and commodities crisis that singles them out for special pain bc of the region’s reliance on Strait of Hormuz
The scenario below is dark, dark, dark … but we have basically waged slow-motion economic warfare against our allies in one of the most important regions in the world.

English

@masonhensley @AlecStapp Perhaps our elected officials should focusing on policies that don't inflict pain on our manufacturing base.
English

@AlecStapp No pain, no gain.
I’m talking with domestic raw materials companies and demand is ramping off the charts.
Of course business that buys foreign materials is going to feel some pain. If Allen can’t figure out a domestic supply chain, someone else will.
English

@Peter_Bucci @NotWoofers And well within range of land based fires.
English

@BarelyPortable @NotWoofers It is against Kharg, an island of 8,200 people and only 20 km².
English

@p_tom40 @jimcramer This is the line now? Higher gas prices is a good thing? Good luck with that one.
English

@jimcramer Because China might not like $200 Oil, and the Iran’s bankers in UAE Dubai might not like this either. $200 oil is a bonanza for the largest energy producer in the world right now, USA.
English

@TheFulgurite @hmajd The same reason schools are next to American bases. Soldiers have families and their kids go to school.
English

@hmajd I think a better question would be to ask why they put a school within the retaining wall of the IRGC Navy base 25 acre military base? The separation wall was put up around 10y ago yes, but no western country puts the school that close to a command center

English

Yes, tragic and heartbreaking. But you don't have to be a defender of the Iranian regime to not blatantly lie.
The school was struck in the opening minutes of the war. Saturday is a school day in Iran, as Friday is the Muslim Sabbath. School starts at 7:30 am, and the first bombs and missiles began falling around 10am local time.
So children were in classes and the regime had no warning or even expectation that the war was imminent. (All schools closed immediately after.) The government was even planning to send a technical team to Vienna on the following Monday to continue nuclear talks.
It is now clear that the attack on the school wasn't even an accident of war; it was a mistake, yes, but not collateral damage. It was a deliberate strike because of faulty information and planning.
To suggest that the tragic and heartbreaking death of schoolgirls was the result of Iran placing them in harms way, or using them as human shields, is despicable.
Mark Dubowitz@mdubowitz
This is so tragic and heartbreaking. The U.S. and Israel try to avoid civilian casualties. The regime in Iran uses civilians as human shields and deliberately tries to kill civilians — American, Arab, Iranian, European and many others.
English

@DavidLBernstein @mattyglesias close the strait and keep it closed
English

@mattyglesias The Law of Diminishing Marginal Hatred: What's he going to do? Not negotiate on his nuclear program? Field a proxy network? Build nuclear weapons?
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti And it's ok to say that you support bombing the school. It looks better than whatever nonsense you are trying to pull here.
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti I gave you my rule. You didn't answer my question, you avoided it and tried to enforce your subjective moral framework. It's okay to say you're fine killing kids other ways
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti I've answered several questions and your inability to answer a basic question tells me everything I need to know about your lack of good faith. Good day good sir.
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti I already ask you the question first. Answer mine, I'll answer yours
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti What are your moral boundaries about the bombing of children at school?
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti I'm just asking questions and setting moral boundaries on what is acceptable in your moral framework. It's not hard to answer the question unless you are aware of the consequences of admitting to something you might have to back track to defend your position.
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti This is a specific post about a specific incident that was clearly and obviously immoral. If you can't understand that then I can't help you.
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti Also so it's specifically an issue with just bombing them? Killing children other ways is acceptable?
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti If they are bombing children, they are being immoral. Of course, the people conducting the bombing are individuals who are members of specific institutions, not "palestine" or "native americans'.
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti Oh including Palestine? How about Venezuela? Or What about native Americans?
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti Yes, I deny support for anyone who bombs children because it is immoral. Not that hard of a question!
English

@BarelyPortable @matthew_petti A quick easy answer. So you deny support for anyone who targets children? Or even harms children in collateral?
English

@stonemangiant @matthew_petti Bombing the school was immoral. Hope that helps.
English

@matthew_petti So where exactly do you draw the line at ending it? Is it immoral to stop that because they built their institutions next to schools? Should we let it keep happening? Is that moral?
English

@Crypto_Georgist @rieszspieces Travel to Austin in August and walk outside.
English

@rieszspieces Always get FOMO from low prices, new housing, no income tax, and no communist government.
What's so bad about it? I need to know to appreciate what I have in the Bay
English

austin is worse than the san francisco bay area
mostly harmless graduate student@rieszspieces
soon i will be able to pass an informed judgment on the fact that austin is worse than the san francisco bay area
English

@alexjlockie @ChrisHartline For a layman this is a normal and reasonable mistake. For a newspaper of record it is not. People who can't tell the difference between the two should not be writing about Iran.
English

@ChrisHartline Obvioulsy that's a big mistake and important to avoid but on this one particular F up, give people a break. The guys names are Khamenei and Khomeini. There's gonna be mix ups.
