@optimum you are no longer the only provider in my neighborhood you can make it as hard as possible which is indicative of the 12 years i was your customer but i’m going to cancel no matter how long you make this call take

@IBDinvestors Nothing better than paying for a subscription and then having an ad cover part of the chart associated with the article.

@thejustinwelsh This post proves that smart insightful people can give bad advice. Dismissing someone’s advice/opinion based on their age is an ignorant generalization.

Your parents' advice is likely aligned with a world that died 15-20 years ago. Following it guarantees you'll optimize for problems that no longer exist. Ignore them with love.

@kellabyte Don’t know where you have been to come back to c# from but I have seen unsound engineering in java, python, c++ etc. You have not given enough info to prove your point but have certainly raised doubts by implying it is unique to c#/.net.

One thing I really notice coming back to C#/.NET space is many have been taught to value style over sound engineering. Given a task to build a report over millions of rows & apply a custom calc to each row they will do this all in C#. Resisting SQL & sprocs 500K round trips

@ericmetaxas @Delta Stop looking for something to be outraged about. If it is a protest, who cares as long as she does her job. Trump won enjoy it.

On my @Delta flight from BHam today the female flight attendant has a severely shaved head, obviously to express her horror at Trump's victory. Is it @Delta policy to let employees express themselves politically? Would a prominent Trump tattoo be ok? Frequent flyers want to know.

You are in a team of developers who understand both of the following and when new developers are onboarded the developer has team docs to learn team standards. Do you constrain to one option or allow both?

@DamianEdwards @davidfowl After the last 36 hours we just went through with key vault my vote would be a new secrets storage application that honors disabled versions or at least gives you a way to delete them without waiting on azure support.

Man doing leetcode style problems with modern C# is really nice, collection expressions, tuples, switch expressions really make a big difference.

Did you initiate the transfer from your brokerage account? If so get the routing and account number from your brokerage so that you can initiate it from your bank. The risk is greater for any FI when they are pulling money from another institution. As others have said this kind of fraud is on the rise.

@jeremydmiller @dotnetrocks I’m not sure you can blame that on the dotnet space. I would think the same difficulty is present on other platforms as well.

OSS in the .NET space is still frustrating. Marten is almost a decade old, we've literally written hundreds of blog posts about it, talked about it at conferences, Hanselminutes once, @dotnetrocks several times and it's *still* common to hear comments...

You have the chance to build a new web app with front end, back end API and data layers. What stack and tools would you personally use to build it? Has anything changed for you over the years? Interested in what everyone's go-to is now, and WHY. #greenfield #techstack #coding

@RolandBarbe @ollama @shanselman @William_DotNet I’ve never met @shanselman personally but have watched his presentations, listened to his podcasts and read his blog for decades. I don’t think there is a nicer person in tech. He is the best presenter I’ve ever seen. This has to be a mistake or misunderstanding of the situation.

@danpdc This is true. The debt comes in many fashions. We just had a vendor over double our annual license fees. Because we kept the components we used to a minimum and abstracted the usage with wrapper classes we were able to easily replace them.

I'll say it again! Every SINGLE time you add a library to your project, you add technical debt!

@dcroy3 I tried again. Tried putting the reference inside string interpolation braces in case that works, I tried just putting the reference as is... nothing worked. When I try to pull the EmailTo from settings, it won't work. Chatgpt told me this, but it is often wrong so I asked here.

Anyone know how I can pull these strings from AppSettings instead of hard coding? This is #serilog email configuration in the DI container in a #dotnet 7 console app. Tried: moving the Configure<AppSettings> line up, or the serilog config down... But only plain strings work.

@KrisBunda3D That should work. Are you sure your key names are the right names. i.e. Settings and not AppSettings? if it is Settings your config file should have a section { "Settings": { "EmailFrom":"from@address", "EmailTo":"to@address", ... } }

@dcroy3 I tried referencing from my AppSettings file exactly as you show (except mine is named ["Settings:EmailFrom"] & "...EmailTo" & "...EmailSubject", etc...), but it didn't work inside that serilog email config block. It DOES work elsewhere in the DI config container, frustratingly.
