Congratulations to Danny Davis @DDavis_Biomech , who successfully defended his PhD in kinesiology today. The title of Danny's thesis is "Examining the Function of the Foot's Arch in Gait" and his thesis advisor is John Challis. Well done, Danny! @PSUKINESGrad @pennstatekines

Had a blast hopping on the DoR Podcast with Jen getting to peel back the curtain a bit on what we think about and solve for here at Brooks. Thank you @DoctorsRunning for having us!
Doctors of Running@DoctorsRunning

In our latest podcast, we talk with Jennifer Sumner and @edayrun, biomechanists at @brooksrunning. They give us an inside look at how Brooks' unique approach to biomechanical testing and research in shoe development Apple: apple.co/3Nz2W6m Spotify: spoti.fi/4125SeF

Any other @BertecHQ users have this issue with their treadmill? Y-component force is inverted and seems to be no ability to adjust the calibration matrix in their software. @AmSocBiomech

jobs.lever.co/brooksrunning/… Opening for an RII position! If you obsess over the granular details of running shoes, love asking "why?", applying scientific insights to product creation, and just love any and all things running - please apply!

NFL training camp or World XC? This is “The Chicane,” where athletes have to weave in between (or, if you’re feeling foolish, hurdle over) rows of tires.

@KarlZelik Depends how involved you are. Are you a subject matter expert and in the weeds with them day to day, or there to guide and ask the right questions so they find their own direction, a more "in the business" manager. FWIW I'm 'in the weeds' with 2, and can't imagine having over 4-5

As your lab grows, the # of direct reports can become a key issue. And decision. Many PIs prefer to keep their lab organization (hierarchy) fairly flat. They like to be involved with all their students & projects. But this doesn't scale well. Thus the ❓ about direct reports.

How many direct reports are too many? (Asking for a friend) If you're an academic PI, then once you get a few years into the job, this becomes an important question to ponder & learn about. #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

I can’t remember what I had for breakfast but I can remember a dozen 4-digit SPU codes from various produce items (from my high school job)… 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Revel 6 and Levitate 6 now both out! Had a lot of fun working with the Product Team on getting those new sidewall geometries (+entire shoe system) dialed to ensure we hit bmech and perception metrics.

@EmilyMatijevich As pointed out, can't expect blanket claims to uncover mechanisms for all. But acceptance of WHAT matters is the next step, not just breaking into 'responders and non-responders' but what make them that category? I personally like runner types as a good path to explore (2/n)

Why are "super shoes" super? tl;dr... the biomechanics community doesn't know (yet). One recommendation moving forward: Group mean analyses (alone) of biomech variables in shoe A vs. B will not reveal WHY shoe A improves performance (Nigg et al. 2022)🧵 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
