@tenobrus @buccocapital and if ur rich then school is more about getting your kids connections with other powerful ppl than about "education" so unless u think ai will overturn the world order it still makes sense to invest in education

@adam_kranz true, though not as astonishing as it might seem at first blush, a cell tower isn't an omnidirectional antenna but dozens of high gain beam antennas pointed everywhere at the ground. not quite as much competition as you might think for your phone to be heard

@emptyrivers Sure but the signal out from the phone is the same in both cases. The fact that the tower can receive is the astonishing part right

It's wild that wifi networks often fail a few rooms away but cellular data connections work over miles

@adam_kranz also the legal wifi bands are saturated if you're anywhere with a population density higher than 0, but the cellular frequencies are tightly regulated and the fcc really doesn't screw around when it comes to enforcement on unlicensed radio operators

@realtimeai one would hope that it's precisely opposite to the like button! every control system needs negative feedback levers

the whole qi2/magsafe as a charging standing is so goofy. it’s literally not wireless charging. there’s a wire. it has to be connected to the phone. just put some metal contact points and directly charge it????

A jet is just a function value with its derivatives up to some order. E.g., 3rd order jet means is the tuple (f(x), f'(x), f''(x), f'''(x)). The Wikipedia page is difficult to understand for unknown reasons

tbc i don't think there's anything wrong with pizza toppings, they just fundamentally change the experience. "plain" pizza is only boring if the ingredients are bad, a good new york style pizza is a marvel and needs no adulteration.

cheese pizza is a totally different foodstuff than pizza (with toppings). comparing the two is akin to trying to compare lasagna & chicken parmesan, one is a dedication to the harmony between cheese & tomato & bread, the other is a hot open faced sandwich.

@qualiascript i think it generally relies on humans having some non material component which can exist separate from your life & is fungible or homoiousian with that of other individuals. a soul before birth, if you're religious, or something like andy weir's egg if you're a huge sci fi dork

@adam_kranz might turn out to be psychology nonreplicationslop but it's at least a testable idea compared to "in our evolutionary past, large breasts serve the purpose of...."

@adam_kranz you mean superstimuli? it's just the idea tha if stimulus produces a response in the subject, then a magnified version of the stimulus probably produces a magnified response i think the classic example in humans are those old fertility idols with disproportionately huge breasts
