Can we suggest a sister property? Give the client (me) context. Help us understand why it's not available and what the alternatives are. I guarantee revenue goes up.

Hotels spend $$$ on revenue management software, dynamic pricing, CRM tools, and sales teams. Then someone replies "sorry, no availability" to a corporate group inquiry with no path forward. ALWAYS offer a solution. Are your dates flexible? Can we place you on second option? Ca

A 'preferred supplier list' that hasn't been updated in three years is just a list.

The easier something looks, the harder it was to deliver. 120 hotel rooms required in Marseille at end of May. Last minute, peak season. 28 hotels contacted. The client will receive a clean shortlist of availabilities. They won't see the work.

@iamshackelford In Spain they have a saying for this. “Lo barato sale caro”. But that mindset probably also helped you get where you are.

I’m ALMOST on the last payment on a tax mistake I made five years ago. In 2021, I made more money than my parents saw in a decade. But growing up, we were "sports poor." We moved every year because the rent went up. My parents' divorce turned money into a source of permanent anxiety. When you grow up that way, your brain is hard-wired to be cheap, even when you’re well off. That "poverty thinking" led me to hire a $500 offshore specialist to handle a seven-figure tax situation. I’ve spent the last four years in bureaucracy hell because of it. The lesson cost me over $1M in overpaid taxes and hundreds of hours of soul-crushing stress. It turns out, being cheap is the most expensive thing you can do when you start playing in the big leagues.

@SahilBloom The solution to 80% of the problems in life is to "Meet more people." Want a different job? Meet more people. Want more dates? Meet more people. Feel lonely? Meet more people.

Used to go clubbing at La Paloma in my twenties. Going to a Charlie Cunningham concert there next Thursday. It's also one of the best large event venues in Barcelona - has been since 1903. Some buildings just work across every context.

There is a specific kind of weight you carry as a service provider when a client expects you to be the hero of a story they haven't finished writing. Lately, it feels like brands want partners to do 3x the work for a fraction of the budget. Usually because their own internal foundations are shaking. When you live in the "Revenue" bucket, like media buying or retention, your job description is often just a suggestion. If you're hired to fix email and sub retention, but the landing pages are broken and the ads are misleading, you're forced to become an unpaid CRO, Ad Strategy and margin consultant just to get the chance to work on the shit you get hired to do. Recently, I’ve started categorizing the CEOs we work with into three patterns: • The ones who demand "more work" as a proxy for progress because they don’t actually know their numbers. • The hyper-analytical types who track so many variables they never actually make a decision. • The product-obsessed founders who will delay a revenue-generating launch over a shade of blue. No amount of "lever-pulling" can save a business if the founder hasn’t identified their own leadership archetype. If the behavior you’re trying to build isn't rooted in operational reality, the best marketing in the world is just a faster way to fail.

Conversation with a client this morning: Planner: “Need to remove the cloakroom. I can’t justify the extra €500 to my boss.” Also planner: “My boss would like a corner suite. Don’t worry about the cost.” I see you, event planners. The struggle is real.

Interesting strategy by @IBTMevents in Barcelona to start charging 150€ for the base entry price. Curious - did anyone feel like attendance was significantly down? If so, did the quality of the attendees make up for it?

The events industry is getting louder, but not clearer. We’re building a new platform to fix transparency in sourcing (whether in Barcelona or Dallas). Instead of guessing behind closed doors, I want to build this in the open and hear what actually matters to you.

I’ve been sourcing hotels & venues globally for 15+ years. If you knew me before 2020, I was loud here. Then business came back, and I went heads-down to build. I’ve missed the conversation. So I’m opening up the notebook again. 👇

@avimeir This is brilliant. Same message applies to travel, events and pretty much any other in person experience being "metaversed".

It's been awhile since I've worked on an event and I've become that speaker that #eventprofs cringe about: ✅show up late for my tech check ✅not dialed in from where I am going to be speaking ✅will be trying to do this on hotel wi-fi ✅no idea how long or when the session is

@atnguyen If you spend 3 mins a day, every day between the ages of say 10 and 90 that’s around 62 days (24hours straight) of your life spent just making your bed I think the math is right on that, sure twitter will correct me

I make my bed everyday, it helps me feel like the day has a clean, fresh start. I thought everyone did this. I just found out through a very unscientific poll that about half of the world doesn't make their beds?
