Just wrapped a client meeting. Female. 73 and healthy. 2 adult kids (age 42 and 47). 13 year old grandson. Plenty of money for her comfortable retirement. The conversation was mostly focused on estate planning and encouraging her to feel okay giving money to her adult kids. Here's what I said to her: "Think about life 20 years from now. You're 93... Your kids are in their 60s and your grandson is 33. Then they'll inherit your money. However, at that time everyone is fairly settled into who they are and what they'll become. Now compare that with a gift today. Your kids are at a place in their lives where a financial gift can have a trajectory-altering impact. Consider the ripple effects of removing a bit of financial stress from the parents of a 13 year old. I'll help ensure your needs are met for the rest of your life, but if you see an opportunity to help the people who matter to you, seize it."

@ChartSetup Maybe. But THAT land? Why not invest for the highest potential return for 10 years and then cash out and buy whatever he wants? Re: asset allocation. Personal use, illiquid real estate is already about 30%.

@hardingwealth Depends on his asset allocation...400k seems like a reasonable land allocation against his $5M net worth. Any chance he would ever sell his current residence and build a home to retire on this land in 10 yrs?

Just wrapped an email exchange with a client. Mid 50s. Male. Net worth ~$5m. His Email: "I have land in Maine. I bought it for $198K and there is a chance to sell it at $400K. I am not really in need to sell it, nor I will be building anything there.   Would you advise to keep it and sell it in the future or cash it out, with the tax implications?" My Response: "If you’re not going to build on it I’d likely sell. Here’s how to look at this: If you sell it for $400k, let's say you’ll end up with $370k after taxes and closing costs. So, ask yourself this: If you had $370k in cash in your portfolio right now and could buy anything in the world with it, would you buy THAT piece of land in Maine? I think the answer is probably “no” but I’ll leave that to you. And if it is, “no” then accept the offer." ........ Look, there are plenty of reasons to hold onto things you wouldn't normally go buy at today's fair market value. But in this particular client's case, I know there better-aligned ways to use this capital than sitting on raw land.

@AllisonMDstack The math part of this post is overly simplistic to get a different point across. It wouldn’t matter if it were $365k or $375k or whatever, post tax. The point is to audit holdings to ensure they’re aligned with what people actually want.

@hardingwealth Seems cap gains taxes are underestimated to me, especially for Maine. But you probably know better.

As a busy dad in his 40s who is trying to keep his fitness on point, I will often chat with other guys my age at the gym if I notice they're in good shape, ask them what they do, etc. The secret used to be about diet and training protocol.... The last 10 people I've talked to give credit to TRT and peptides. Every one of them.

@MrAzSports Yea man, people act like the Suns wouldn't have been 3-1 against the Spurs this year if it hadn't been for 2 missed free throws by Fleming followed by a Wemby game winner.

Suns play in game tonight. We really need to find a way to win this game. I don’t want to play clippers or GSW in a 1 game battle to face OKC. Rather face the Spurs.

Someone just tried to convince me that a pension is "definitely better than a lump sum portfolio withdrawal strategy because the distribution rate of the pension is about 6.9% (joint and survivor) and that's much better than the 4% Rule". My response: Yo dawg. You're leaving out the 100% distribution rate at death (in the pension). Them: Oh yea. ...Everything is circumstantial.

@dougboneparth @Budgetdog_ Have fun staying poor, Doug. The only way to get rich is to lend money to your broke aunt at 14% and then repo her RV when she doesn’t pay.

You aren’t really building wealth if you’re only in the public markets. Private deals are where it’s at.

Throwing on kids music to soothe crying child is high risk, high reward: If the song works, then you are just stuck listening to it but there’s no kids crying. Good. But if it doesn’t work, then the combination of crying + kid song is exponentially more terrible than the sum of its parts.

Here's what you should do if you're worried about your recent portfolio losses. 1) If you have access to some kind of Growth of Wealth chart for your portfolio, go access it. 2) Go back to the last time your portfolio was its current value. In the below sample case, the portfolio is at $2.038m today and it was last at this value in Aug 2025 (despite distributions coming out) 3) Ask yourself how you felt about your life at that time. It was probably good. Now remember that you're in basically the same situation right now. That's it.

The Anxious Generation was published two years ago today, in a very different world. Back then, the most common objection I got was resignation: "The train has left the station." "You can't put toothpaste back in the tube." "It's how the kids connect today." Today, the world looks very different. It turns out that if our kids were all on a train and we learned it was heading toward a collapsed bridge, we'd find a way to stop it and bring them safely back to the station. That’s what’s happening now. After the historic verdicts in Los Angeles and New Mexico, today is a great day to reflect on the capacity of people in democratic societies to take action, even when opposing some of the most powerful corporations in history. We're getting access to the courts. We're getting phone-free schools. We're seeing whole neighborhoods letting kids out to play, unsupervised, which is what we older folk all remember as the best part of childhood. So I want to recognize: --The mothers (and, right behind them, fathers) who rose up by the millions and powered the movement. --The farsighted governors and legislators in red states and blue states who have been innovating on policy solutions. --The leaders of a dozen of nations, who are raising the age to 16 for opening social media accounts (with a special shoutout to Australia, for going first). --The teachers and school administrators who had their classrooms disrupted for 15 years, and who are now eager to think through new solutions as screens have taken over and obstructed learning. --The grassroots organizations who have been dedicating their efforts to advocate for all of the above in their local communities. --The millions of members of Gen Z who have been rising up, demanding agency over how they spend their lives in the digital era, and finding better ways to connect in real life. And one final group: the survivor parents--the ones you saw in those pictures of people embracing on the front steps of the LA courthouse. I have met many over the years. I am in awe of their courage and tenacity, their willingness to tell their stories of loss, over and over again, to different audiences, in the hope that no other parent would have to endure what they have endured. At long last, juries and legislatures are hearing you, and are acting. Together, we are calling the train back to the station. Together, we are rolling back the phone based childhood and reclaiming life in the real world. The work continues. If you’re not already involved, join us: anxiousgeneration.com/join

@racksonbase @IB_9trey @BrickCenter_ Glad it wasn’t called a foul — but it wasn’t a flop. No chance an NBA player is trying to fuck their ankles up on purpose in this situation.

@IB_9trey @hardingwealth @BrickCenter_ We'll it's real easy. Fox is moving backwards and booker moved into him on purpose, and stepped on his foot trying to get a foul call..This is the problem with the NBA they always allow the offensive player to iniatte the contact then call the foul on the defense. 🗑️ Basketball
