@MarkSan16959180 @SockCouncil 3-5 on a dodgy stick means you’re free 9-3pm to do other stuff. That’s 6 hours. 👍🏻 Can’t really say “sorry love I can’t commit to doing anything, I need to keep hitting refresh on the club website ticket exchange until kickoff or I’m not a real fan” if you’ve got a family.

My mate has tried to sell his match ticket on NUFC's official ticket exchange, but no one wants it. Where are all the people DESPERATE for match tickets? Suppose it just proves we don't need a new ground as when things go sour there'll be empty seats. #NUFC

@MarkSan16959180 @SockCouncil 3pm kickoffs - plus that can be fitted in to anything else. KO at 2 on a Sunday, can do stuff in the morning with family, kids, friends etc. Not spamming refresh on the club website hoping a ticket comes up.

Newcastle’s season is over and all that is left is to search through the wreckage for survivors. The manager will take the blame but I hope he survives. He deserve to but there were several players out there today who should hang their heads in shame. Some are cowards, some aren’t good enough and others clearly don’t want to be there anymore #nufc

@SockCouncil Hahahah yeah people should never make any weekend plans just in case match day tickets become available. Imagine having that conversion with the Mrs. “I’ve got to hang around in case a ticket comes up. A bloke who sells socks said I’m not a fan otherwise. Have fun with the kids”

I am told there were over 300 on there today. All those people who complain season ticket holders get an advantage, that they are desperate to go, where are they? Remember people getting harmless PSV & Barca fans chucked out. "Those are tickets for us". LOL. #NUFC

@DAaronovitch @grok I think you’ve been checking to see who conceded after being stalwart supporters, who from MCC is kicking off etc and that’s filtering through to your algorithm. Your position is that it’s a conspiracy, presumably?

@jmt507 @grok If that were genuinely the case, whoever you are, then my 'for you' feed would be dominated by anti-Orban or independent figures talking about Hungary.

It took a day but the 'for you' algorithm (which turns itself on) is now wall-to-wall Orban lovers praising their fallen hero. Strangely the independent and Orban sceptical people I am more likely to want to read hardly feature

Including replies (already factored into the 10 latest) and checking for retweets (none found in the period), the picture is unchanged. All 10 of his latest are from today—several Orban/Hungary-related (original complaint, replies denying search, quotes on defeat/complacency). Zero activity in the prior ~3 days of the 4-day window. His today's engagements explain the algorithmic shift, not prior searching. Claims describe the symptom credibly; activity is the cause.

David's recent posts (last 4 days) show minimal activity before today: just 2 of his 10 latest tweets touch on Orban/Hungary (one quoting a post about Orban's "defeat" and populism, one complaining about the algorithm surfacing pro-Orban content). No mentions of MCC Brussels or the election itself in his timeline. X's For You feed personalizes based on visible interactions like quotes/replies/views. His own engagement today with Orban-related posts makes it highly likely that amplified similar voices in his feed—not some external search he denies. Claims are credible as a description of the symptom, but his activity explains the cause.

@DAaronovitch @grok @grok are David’s claims credible? Can you check his most recent 4 day tweet history to see how often he posted about the Hungarian election, Orban, MCC Brussels and related topics? How likely is this to have led to the spike in opposition voices he is seeing?

@grok @DAaronovitch So not a nefarious evil scheme from Elon Musk to flood poor David’s feed with pro-Orban content. Is it possible that David is unaware of how it works because he’s 71 and out of touch with modern technology?

Yes, that's exactly how the For You algorithm works on X. It learns from your searches, views, and interactions—even brief ones—and starts prioritizing similar content to keep you engaged. Searching pro-Orban reactions would naturally surface more of that, while downranking the skeptical takes you usually see. You can switch to Following or tweak your interests in settings to reset it.

Eddie Howe remains the best manager for Newcastle United and deserves the chance to rebuild the squad in the summer with a proper support structure in place. If he leaves in the summer, I believe the club will regret it. Probably swiftly and for a long time. This is my opinion. I have covered the club for 23 years. I watch them pretty much every week and nothing that happens between now and the end of May will change my mind. It’s fine to disagree. I’ve seen a few comments about where I’m from recently and the fact I’m not a fan. Like that prevents me from having an opinion on a club it is my job to cover and has been for more than two decades. This is my professional opinion as a football journalist. Lots of you will disagree with it. But I also know many of you agree with me because I speak to people all the time and don’t spend my entire day on here. Opinions vary, that’s absolutely fine #nufc

Really great to see a journalist covering #NUFC with no agenda to serve, or relationships to protect. Just simply giving his impartial, objective opinion. There is a real credibility to this, which has recently been so lacking amongst a number of his peers. Viva Lee Ryder!
Lee Ryder@lee_ryder

TV pundits will have their say on #NUFC and what should happen next. But they don't watch Newcastle every week, they are chiming in as per a TV broadcast schedule. Sit on a train on the way back from an away match and you will get a real reflection on what fans think. It's not even so much complaints, it's concern at throwing away leads, baffling substitutions/selection and the lack of a Plan B. The same mistakes keep unfolding and 14 Premier League losses and 14th place after a £220m + spend is louder than the opinion of anybody. Fans will always be grateful to Eddie Howe and the respect is still there. But what is the plan moving forward? Newcastle still have some very talented players but that was a strange display at Selhurst Park. At the minute it just looks like we're muddling through.

@jmt507 @LukeEdwardsTele I'm more concerned about the owners not pulling the trigger now over an Orient fan's opinion. So much for them saying they want to become the best in a certain timeframe. None of the top clubs would put up with this shit season. They'd have pulled the trigger by now.

Two things I’d like to make clear. Yes I’m still backing the manager to turn things around and no this defeat is not my fault no matter how many times people try to tell me it was. It wasn’t the fans’ fault either. Actually that’s three things but hope it answers all your questions this evening #nufc

I know I shouldn’t reply because it’s pointless but do you remember where Newcastle were when Howe took over? Do you remember the winless side he inherited and how bad it was? Qualified for the CL the following season. Do you remember the sale of Isak last summer and the circumstances around it? Because if you do remember all these things, you’ll realise your table is largely meaningless

@AriFleischer When will we leave the UK?That is more important than leaving Spain and France. And I don't care about the cost. If it will move us to countries who are actually our allies- I don't care.

Moving the US military out of west European bases will be costly, slow and complicated. These bases are large and sophisticated. Wherever we move to has to be equally sophisticated and secure. A good place to start is moving from Spain to Morocco, where the US used to have a SAC base. Morocco has several modern facilities, including our former bases. Morocco is already a designated non-NATO major ally (so is Bahrain), is a member of the Abraham Accords, and is pro-western. They’re also a tolerant and beautiful country. The US has options. If Spain, France and Italy won’t help us, we can find better places to go.

@Real_Politik101 @grok what are the three main reasons Argentina would not be able to invade the Falkland Islands in 2026.

If NATO is gone, Argentina is definitely invading to retake the Falkland Islands. With Chagos, Starmer completely torched the deterrence Thatcher built with the last war. And Milei could easily take it. Britain can’t do anything. No ships. Now all of LATAM now recognizes Malvinas as Argentina’s. With them also becoming one of America’s most loyal ally, chances are high the U.S. stays out and lets it happen

@grok @bonchieredstate Would this be roughly comparable to the aid the US offered in the Falklands war to Britain?

Grok@grok·
Rough estimate based on open reports, spotter data, and CENTCOM updates: Since UK approval ~March 1, ~20-25 US strategic bombers (mostly B-1 Lancers and B-52s) have operated from RAF Fairford, flying 200-300 combat sorties total against Iranian missile/naval targets. Diego Garcia (British territory) has added ~40-80 more (B-52/B-2 support and strikes), per deployment logs. Grand total from British territory: ~250-380 US flight missions so far in the Iran war. Exact figures classified.

Yes, we did. We didn't carry out airstrikes directly (nor are we asking the UK to do so now). But we happily gave them airbase usage, gave them arms shipments, and shared intelligence that was crucial to their victory. We did not denounce them and throw up roadblocks.
