For the first time in over 50 years, humans are Moonbound. At 6:35 p.m. EDT (2235 UTC) NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft lifted off from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, sending four astronauts on a planned test flight around the Moon and back. go.nasa.gov/4tlRfRS

@Combat_learjet My response to this: So you know how the A-10 nose gear is offset because they built the plane around the gun? Because its primary purpose is war fighting? Yeah. Same principle with navy ships.

@MichaelMBarber I haven’t kept data to back this up but my gut/experience tells me a double club is better. 91 or 135…Divan rarely is used unless it’s the only remaining seats. Most people sleep reclined in their seats too.

Double Club or Divan? Folks have quite strong preferences one way or the other. It’s impressive how passionate owners are about their decision too. Your thought? Does it differ if chartering vs in an owned asset?

@dmbkparker Only slightly related, but a big factor in my decision making while flying is working backwards from an accident or incident report. “The crew’s decision to…”. If I can complete that sentence and it fits in a report, I will rethink.

Two things to remember when you fly: 1. Someone always finds a video 2. Someone on the crew always talks Make your decisions around that when you’re training and you will never get in trouble. Or just train hard and you’ll be too focused and tired to do dumb things.

Pilot don’t do list: 1. If your instructor tells you you’re off the centerline don’t reply “sure but the standard is +/- 5 deg heading from landing direction not proximity to the centerline.” 2. Hold your hands out the window as a young instructor and when the trainee asks why say, “I just want to make sure no one thinks I’m doing this.” 3. Gun jams in back during the range don’t making sounds over ICS imitating the minigun and say “maybe if they hear it they’ll stop shooting at us.” 4. Respond to tower and say, “I have no idea what you’re saying so I’m just going to land right to my parking spot” and proceed to brown out the whole FOB. 5. Tell Korean controller “I’ll just turn off my transponder then if you’re going to make up rules.” 6. Declare an emergency in order to get a landing clearance. Any questions? Don’t be like the younger me. The old guy calmed down, I promise.

You can block the tail. You can layer ownership. You can put attorneys and entities between you and the aircraft...Doesn’t matter. If someone sees you step on the plane and connects you to the tail… it’s over. Now they’re not searching. They’re following. Privacy in aviation isn’t about hiding the airplane. It’s about structuring the exposure. Most people have no idea how the ADS-B system works or why. #PrivateJetBS Newsletter # 27 is out! If the solution to hard problems was hiring more people, then special operations units would be 10x the size of conventional counterparts.

I feel like people love watching reruns of Frasier and Seinfeld because they felt like the golden age of society. Tech wasn't intrusive, people could still buy things & go out, and you still had real connections with other people....spending more time with people than online.

I can count the people I truly admire on one hand. Laird is one of them. He’s one of the few who passes this test: 👉Don’t emulate someone unless you want their *whole* life, not just one part of it. Society puts people on a pedestal when they’re wildly successful in one thing (usually money), but most of those people are one-dimensional and equally UNsuccessful in other areas—with broken relationships, bad health, and spiritual emptiness. Elon Musk—the world’s richest man—has referred to his life as a “tortured existence”. Is that what you want? I’ve followed Laird for many years believe he’s someone worth emulating: —Married 28 years (same as me) —Close-knit family —Plenty of money but… —Lives a simple life on his terms —Lives in his happy place —Not caught up in fame or followers —Health & fitness is his top priority —Curiosity & thirst for adventure A few years ago I stopped at a food truck in Hanalei and spotted Laird and his family sitting at a picnic table. I didn’t want to bother him, so I just walked up and said, “Hi Laird, I’m a big fan.” We ended up talking for ten minutes, and he was exactly who I’d always hoped he was. Be careful who you emulate, because you just might get there.

I am pretty sure @flightschedpro is the first company to fire all its employees and be 100% AI. They charged my customer’s credit card 9 times yesterday, and they appear to have zero employees left to help us.

@jprupp @MCCCANM Lots of "should haves", unfortunately. The industry has been talking about it for years. Only the professionalism of the individuals keeps ot going as well as it does, almost despite the obvious systemic things.

Worth noting that the ATC staffing shortage has been more than a decade in the making. I first became aware in 2023, when I ran a simple experiment & found the majority were working 6 days a week, mandatory overtime, sometimes for years. We desperately need to fix it.
KC-10 Driver ✈️ 👨‍✈️ B-737 Wrangler@MCCCANM

The question was simple: “Is it true you are working 6 days a week & can’t get spot leave?” The rules were that I wouldn’t ask if radios were busy, wouldn’t ask Tower (critical phase of flight) or below 10k’ (Sterile Cockpit rule). Here’s my tally: 2/5

@jprupp @MCCCANM And I understand the biz model of age/retirement math, but it seems bureaucracratic and literally short-sighted as we have been told about the shortage for years, decades(?) now? Lots of great candidates and controllers that never were bc the system would not adapt.
