@robocarnage I can because I have eyes and can see when people started saying this nonsense. Every kid in my high school had a phone, there were common-sense rules that you couldn't use them in class. No one thought the legislature needed to mandate school districts lock all the phones up

@macs_posts you're so fucking stupid you think you can make an antiimperialist argument for kids having phones in school.

Lorenz may be the only person I’ve seen who holds the “staring at your phone for 8 hours a day is actually very good for your brain” position, which I have to say, I’m impressed with. She sticks to her guns

@righteousgin @katewillett There isn't a viable left-wing party. Gotta build one, and you can't do that by ingratiating yourself to the right-wing Democrat Party.

@macs_posts @katewillett that sounds like more power than tweeting and circle jerking about revolution, why not try to influence the only viable left wing party?

NYC -DSA has the most right wing leadership of any DSA chapter in the entire country and it is a fact people discuss all the time. One of our co-chairs publicly supported homeless sweeps on a popular radio show. No one has any illusions here.
steve@gyrewidener

it isn’t surprising that “dsa left” partisans conflate a caucus’s slate winning chapter leadership with the caucus itself leading the chapter; that is how they do things when they win

@briebriejoy @mike_slugs I get her point but she seems to be suggesting we must do nothing . We accept defamation law. I am a libertarian but it’s now just nuts to pretend social media and AI doesn’t pose massive dangers to women , Muslims , children, yada yada . I agree there’s no good answer.

@oxfordmarlboro @briebriejoy @mike_slugs There is zero (0) evidence of this, and it has been repeatedly studied across different cultural contexts. Violent games and movies/TV do not make people violent.

@briebriejoy @mike_slugs Obviously access to guns and mental illness are the main causes, but think it's pretty obvious that the violent video games are playing a strong contributing role.

@mike_slugs @rskhm__ Literally no one believed in this "smartphone crisis" stuff until October 2023 when people started getting information about Israel not filtered through the mainstream press. Everyone had phones when I was in high school and you weren't allowed to use them. Was a non-issue

@macs_posts @katewillett Oh I'm not in DSA I'm just a normie left lib, I was just commenting on why NY DSA necessarily has to be more attached to earth than people in places where electoral success isn't even a possibility to worry about.

@righteousgin @katewillett they don't want to win political power, they want to be junior partners to the DNC in the "progressive ecosystem" and think that equates to having "power"

@andyofarabia13 @mac_balzac @RKelanic @subyroy Americans are always shocked that other countries actually care about international law and norms, and don't just chimp out and massacre civilians at every opportunity.

NYT: Iran’s missile and drone attacks have driven U.S. forces from U.S. military bases, “forcing many American troops to relocate to hotels and office spaces throughout the region.” U.S. can’t defend its own bases from Iran. So why keep them? “Many of the 13 military bases in the region used by American troops are all but uninhabitable, with the ones in Kuwait, which is next door to Iran, suffering perhaps the most damage.” ‼️ Stating the obvious, but this is really bad, folks. @defpriorities nytimes.com/2026/03/25/us/…

@ChristophE55272 @TheJFreakinC "unfriendly to the current government position" Lol get bent. We all remember conservatives chimping out because the DOJ said that you can't call in bomb threats to your local school board.

We don't know. But all we do know is that they were "progressives" who were aligned against, not with, US policy, and that Secretary of State Rubio did not authorize their travel to communist Cuba. These individuals were acting on their own. Their travel was apparently not authorized by the State Dept. We don't even know if these activists were US citizens, whether they had criminal records, or whether they had any outstanding warrants or convictions. Since they seemed to have been unfriendly to the current US Gov't position, it would be prudent to detain and interrogate them to see whether they represent a threat to the US gov't.

🚨BREAKING: 16 American human rights activists have just been detained by Border Patrol in Miami… They were returning from Cuba after delivering humanitarian aid with Nuestra América Convoy. And were detained upon returning… even though this aid mission was approved by Marco Rubio. Now, they need lawyers. Immediately. If you are a lawyer, or know someone who can help… DM me ASAP!

Sure it is. But it's illegal to act on your hatred in a manner that materially harms the country, the properties it contains, or the citizens, legal residents, and guests that it harbors. When a hater acts on that hate and gets in law enforcement's target area, the game changes completely.

@pkgandakin @FalseConsc @morematerial The management of a local post office is not democratically elected. Should the NPC get to appoint the leadership of all chapter WGs in the country? Because that's the actual apples-to-apples comparison with the executive "democratically" choosing the USPS BoG

Yes I think all leadership positions should be elected by general membership or appointed by people elected by general membership. Planning on elaborating in long-form :)
welcome to our trash revolution@trash_panda97

@morematerial are you suggesting that everyone should have to whip 1k votes for each of our many WGs in the largest chapter in the org in order to simply get a majority on any OC? this seems good to you? to me it seems like a recipe for election fatigue and basically nonstop whipping

@pkgandakin @FalseConsc @morematerial No, it's an example of something that works well without being democratic. The belief that we should try to maximize "democracy" (meaning in simply "having votes") in every single thing is not a serious one.
