I think this concern is genuine, and fundamentally there’s isn’t any real structural mechanism to stop an AOC presidency from doing X imperialism. But I think that’s a given regardless of political party in power.
James🔻@GoodVibePolitik

No one seems to have a real answer for “what happens if AOC wins and then oversees the bombing of ____” which would be a near guarantee given our global military spread. With no congressional majority or even plurality either like what would we even be able to do? Censure? Lmao.

And if AOC cracks down on that struggle it’s a point of rupture for greater class consciousness from purely reformism. So in my mind, that contradiction presented by James is not a point of departure from pushing for an AOC presidency, but one where we can move past just AOC2028

So the question becomes, is the terrain for anti-imperialist struggle better under an AOC presidency compared to Trump, Vance, Harris, (insert milquetoast Dem here)? I think undeniably it is.

On the pages of the Atlantic, David Brooks (@DavidBrooks224) begs Democrats to just let democracy die. T.E. Moon (@TEMoon333) responds forcefully: the insurgent progressive wave is rightfully leaving Brooks behind, as it has done every time previously in American history. READ: geesemag.com/articles/david…

They just overplaying their hand. They have no idea how seismic, how exhilarating an AOC presidential run would be to the average leftist voter and stand to simply get blown away by unstoppable political and cultural tides if they refuse to back her. They can’t defeat their base.

We get to choose how we campaign for AOC. We can talk to our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about how we can put an end to our money being used to bomb hospitals and schools abroad instead of building and fully funding them here. Full article: shorturl.at/DzrHA

GW member Allison K. outlines why member polls and "paper members" are not things to be wary of but instead opportunities to expand the active layer of the organization. Our goal is to stir millions of people into political action; that requires deliberation AND mass input.

@Kholina54321 @tuey2046 Yes it is ! It is them actually reaching the limits of their system and actually learning by fighting the system that alienates them. I say “deprivation” because you are saying that the opposite leads to revolutions failing. That is the only sensible reading. Why are you juggling

@pkgandakin @tuey2046 Who said that I wanted deprivation? That would also be bad. In any case, the problem here is somewhat obvious. People fighting for XYZ, getting it, and being dissatisfied in whatever way, has absolutely nothing to do with if they judge the problem with that to be capitalism.

If we must guide the mass struggle in that direction and make its own truth explicit why do you guys specifically organize around the dream of making life under wage-labour better
PK Gandakin 🪿 🚩@pkgandakin

@Kholina54321 @NondescriptRed That’s why we intervene in the mass struggle. Because the mass struggle contains in itself the end goal of communism. We must guide it in that direction and make its own truth explicit, we do not tell ppl to “cease their sorrows” and join our struggle instead

We have the opportunity to lead an inspiring campaign for AOC for president, powered by DSA members, that will engage and grow the base for socialist politics. There is currently no other candidate who is running who a majority of DSA members support who supports an arms embargo.

OK let's develop it the reasoning. The increase in wealth is characteristic of capitalism. The expansion of wealth (including proletarian wealth, *not value*) leads people to more open relations to society and more developed selves--this in turn clashes with the limits of the capitalist mode of production. This is why every revolution has followed a period of reform that has been unsatisfying -- that Kerensky was not enough, so we needed PLB. That the aristocrats were not enough, so we need to behead the monarch. Depending on deprivation for revolutionary fervor is ineffective and works against history--we cannot go backwards, we can only show that social democracy and progressive capitalism is not freeing, it is not enough, it is nothing compared to socialism. They are organizing to fight for XYZ, we organize with them, increase their militancy, strength, and radicalism--we educate agitate and organize--and push them past the limit of their activity, push them through, not redirect them to a third, idealistic path that we've cooked up in our heads
