The grim battlefield math shows Russia is losing a record number of soldiers. For the first time in years, Moscow’s Victory parade is about to take place without any heavy military equipment. This tells a lot about how the war is going for Russia. Next month, EU Foreign Affairs Ministers will continue the conversation on our approach to Russia, and how best to defend our security interests. My press remarks following the Nordic-Baltic Ministerial meeting ↓

I am curious who pays you to write this crap. Are you a single individual or a team of propagandists? Clearly you’re on someone’s payroll, there is a professional element here. You’re eloquent and fact-based enough to seem credible. I doubt it’s the government of Vietnam. China? Russia? Some private entity?

If a foreign army occupied Texas, American militias would mine the roads. We know this because Texans will tell you themselves. Proudly. They have bumper stickers about it. They have prepared for it. The entire cultural mythology of the American gun owner is built on exactly this premise: When "they" come, we will be ready. "They." Some imagined foreign force that will one day arrive to take American freedom. The irony is total and it is never examined. The people most loudly committed to the fantasy of armed resistance against foreign occupation are the same people who looked at Iraqis mining roads against American soldiers and called them terrorists. The principle they claim to love, an armed population will resist occupation, they apply exclusively to themselves. The moment someone else applies it to themselves, in an actual occupation rather than an imagined one, the principle evaporates and what remains is: "Why do they hate us?"

I resigned as U.S. Ambassador Ukraine when Trump kept siding with Putin over our democratic partner. Now, my successor is doing the same. I knew I had to speak out and run for office because siding with dictators is just not who we are.
Amy Mackinnon@ak_mack

Scoop: Julie Davis, the acting US Ambassador in Kyiv, is leaving the State Department having grown frustrated with Trump's dwindling support for Ukraine. Davis's resignation follows that of her predecessor, Bridget Brink, who resigned for similar reasons early last year. W/@christopherjm  as.ft.com/r/1781e555-fad…

For decades, Europe had hoped China would play by the rules, even as it subsidised its companies and kept in place a range of measures that hindered European companies in the Chinese market. Nothing much happened because everyone was making money. Now, as European companies are being pushed out of China and Chinese goods flood the European market, Europeans are pushing back. Beijing's response: threats. Anyone who thinks that a pivot to China is some sort of 'geopolitical hedge' is naïve, or worse.

@karaponet Japan registered all people within its sphere of influence as human beings and governed them equally, so it was different from what you call colonial rule. Singapore is the command center for colonial rule in Southeast Asia.

I’m struck by Reza Pahlavi’s dignity and empathy, which come through in his visible indignation at the journalists’ behavior. Nothing about it feels staged : you can sense how deeply he suffers from what his people are enduring and from the appalling way they are treated.
Reza Pahlavi@PahlaviReza

Whether or not Europe stands with us, whether or not your journalists do their jobs, whether or not your politicians demonstrate the courage to act, I will fight for my people and my country.

@BeijingDai That's cheap propaganda. I met many Japanese people in my life. One of my best friends was Japanese. None of them was disrespectful or rude, not even once. Japanese tourists are always polite and calm. Japan has the right to complain about rude foreigners.

Except for Chinese and Koreans, the world did not know much about Japanese in the past. People around the world — especially in Western countries — grew up watching Japanese anime, playing with Japanese toys, using Japanese electronics, and driving Japanese cars. In their impression, the Japanese are polite, constantly bowing, apologizing, or expressing admiration for the West. For a long time, people had a favorable impression of Japan. Then, seemingly overnight, they started reading what Japanese users were actually saying on X — and they realized that the Japanese are, in fact, a deeply dark, socially Darwinist, power-worshipping, perverse, evil, and racist people. And they find it utterly disgusting. I've said it before: Japan has the most isolated internet enviorment in the world. The Japanese-language internet is the largest echo chamber in existence. No one outside Japan could read Japanese — and most Japanese couldn't read any other language. They were like animals in Australia, disconnected from the rest of the world, gradually evolving all sorts of strange shape. Japanese post wildly outrageous comments without restraint, developing all kinds of extreme and distorted theories. Then Musk introduced automatic translation — and the mask fell off. To everyone's shock, the vast majority of Japanese netizens turned out to be right‑wing extremists, each more radical than the last. They fight with everyone around the world, flinging insults and attacks, lying through their teeth, refusing to acknowledge their own historical crimes, and casually calling for the "elimination" of anyone who disagrees with them. That's when people finally understood: the Chinese and the Koreans were right all along.

BREAKING: 🇺🇸🇮🇱 Israelis do not pay for the weapons "we sell them," rather American taxpayers pay for them - Quincy Institute Most US arms "sales" to Israel are conducted through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program. This aid is like a gift card for purchasing weapons. What appears to be an arms sale is in practice funded by American taxpayers.

We welcome the extension of the ceasefire between the US and Iran. It is an important opportunity to resume diplomatic negotiations, make peace, and avert further escalation of the conflict. Tehran should seize this opportunity as well. 1/3

ARM THE IRANIAN PEOPLE ... IMHO, the people of Iran need to be armed.  Even if there are divisions among various opposition groups.  We cannot defeat the regime, which has demonstrated time and again it must be defeated, without the people within Iran having a fighting chance to destroy the regime from within.  I am not sure what the hesitancy is.  If arms were stolen, by whom and for what?  Regardless, it is the most direct way to take down the regime.  As I've pointed out before, President Reagan used this as part of his doctrine against the Soviet Union -- in Afghanistan, Angola, Nicaragua, etc.
