@jkimballcook How are people going to survive a 90 minute endowment session?

and given the average person's attention span, they're probably right that continuity is more important than long lessons it's a shame, in some ways, that we as a culture are just not equipped for long lessons, but I think greater continuity will be an improvement

Prediction: shorter weekly classes rather than longer classes every other week will not change that much in the average person's church experience we'll have better continuity but lessons will either be shallower or will cover less material

@luvs2hunt84 @JasminRappleye I was thinking this was why they did it ahead of time, not during like announcements in the past. I wonder if there will also be more clarification on the changes during conference.

This new church schedule solves so many problems people are not realizing. I've been hearing people concerned that 25 minutes per class isn't enough time, and that is a valid concern. However, I think this could be a game changer for the YOUTH.

@RachelGooc90575 @BlackBlessedLDS So have the youth leaders ask them to get up and speak during testimony meeting? Missionary work is conversation based. I think there are better ways to prepare for missions than monotone public speaking when sacrament meeting is supposed to be the most sacred hour of the week.

@microsamonomics @BlackBlessedLDS Hard disagree. Some youth won't get up to speak unless they are asked to. Preparing a talk and speaking in Sacrament meeting is great prep for a mission.

@BlackBlessedLDS Have any teenagers yet? It is so important for our youth to speak in Sacrament meeting. It would be a huge disappointment to rob those opportunities from our youth. The talks are real testimony-builders for the speakers.

@FaithLikeAbish2 @NoblestCalling Parents with young children get almost nothing out of sacrament meeting for 10+ years. We need the classes. We need adult conversation. I swear if some chatty goober rambles about what their favorite podcast said for 50% of the lesson, I'm gonna lose my mind.

Do we really have a physician shortage? US is far ahead of Pakistan and India in terms of physician density, yet we keep getting told we need their doctors to survive.

I see some economists are jumping to claims of econ supremacy in empirical work from one especially audacious example of a superspreader of bad research. Fwiw when we actually look at replication, bugs in code, or power, empirical econ looks a lot like psych or quant polisci.

@drStuartGilmour @ryancbriggs Don't forget stats. And many other fields who borrow from the econometrics literature. Sounds like the commonality is that you're the odd man out. So take from that information what you will.

@ryancbriggs You guys just spent the last week on here admitting you don’t know how to analyze count data and don’t know what an offset is. Completely incapable of meaningful policy research

This paper addresses a concept in intergenerational mobility research that has been bugging me for 10 years: when inequality changes between generations, IGE estimates capture more than just "persistence," but ranks leave out information. Cool paper.
Sergio Ocampo Díaz@socampdi

How can we account for inequality when measuring economic mobility❓ Many mobility measures focus on rank changes across generations or time. But ranks only capture relative positions regardless of income/wealth differences. New paper w/@mcgeeconomics: ifs.org.uk/publications/b…

🚨Big news: Washington state just enacted a *full ban* on noncompete agreements. Noncompetes hurt wages, reduce entrepreneurship, and harm innovation—in addition to the obvious: impeding competition. Banning them is pro-worker, pro-growth, pro-dynamism policy.

@MestizoBobbyHil @peterjhasson I've read the study. I posted it because I've read it. I posted it because it's good, it's been vetted, and because it's relevant.

@MestizoBobbyHil @peterjhasson The peer reviewers at the Quarterly Journal of Economics did as they evaluated the work if a Nobel laureate. But if you have any specific concerns, I'm open to them.
