@sarahraviani I think that a first lady's popularity is much more than just clothes and beauty. We've seen every inch of Melania. Even still, we have yet to see any depth, any achievement, any success or drive of her own. She just took off her clothes to snag a $whale. That's not noteworthy.

Today, because I’m in Washington, I had to FaceTime in for the ultrasound of our new baby. I want kids to learn on a spaced timeline and not cram it all on at once so they actually learn and remember what they learned. Deadlines are good.

@CJFerguson1111 Besides, I find great joy in finding cell phones/ear buds out and sending them to the office. We make it a sport - the kids get excited, too. It's fun - I get SO excited when I see one now - since it's rare they get them out in my room because they'll lose them lol.

@CJFerguson1111 I will say cell phones aren't the WHOLE reason for our troubles, but it would end a few things. The real issue is that kids aren't held accountable for learning. They fail, they do no work, they don't master the skills, and they move forward. THAT is the issue.

Most studies show no positive gains for cellphone bans. Despite their wide adoption in the US, standardized testing scores continue their modest decline unabated. But in a moral panic, people will cherry-pick random (and possibly difficult to verify) data points to support the current narrative.

@katieporterca What is the point of another 100k houses that are all 1 mill bucks? They will be vacant and we still won't have homes. And, many with student loans won't ever be able to purchase anyway. We need wages to increase.

Eight kids per class turned in nothing. Not late. Not incomplete. Nothing. Thirty years ago, a kid who missed a deadline knew he missed it. Now they hand in nothing and look genuinely unbothered. Not defiant. Not ashamed. Just elsewhere. Here is what happened. Deadlines lost their teeth system-wide. Late work policies softened. Zeros became controversial. When a deadline has no consequences anywhere a kid goes, it becomes a guideline. And guidelines are optional. Then the phones rewired how they experience time. A deadline requires thinking on Tuesday about Friday. That skill gets harder when your brain lives only in the next thirty seconds. And the hardest part: nobody required it of them. A kid who is never confronted with a deadline that actually sticks learns that a deadline is just where the negotiation starts. He is not wrong. @jlpoober when they realize I'm not letting them get away with it. I have 3 kids that haven't done the essays this semester, but I've hounded them and their parents for so long that the loss of credit is justified AND they have to retake it with ME because I'm the one who teaches IEPS lol

@jlpoober problems are. It's not the easiest thing, but we get kids moving in the right direction. If I didn't make them do the work even after the due date, I would have a bunch of kids that wouldn't learn because they'd opt out. They hate it at first but then they start to shape up
