UPDATED REPORT: 🚨FRISCO ISD REVERSES COURSE - WILL HONOR AUSTIN METCALF AT GRADUATION
Just weeks ago, I reported on a growing controversy surrounding Frisco Independent School District and whether they would do the right thing for Austin Metcalf - the student who was tragically k*lled on April 2, 2025 at a FISD high school track meet.
At the time, there were serious concerns.
This is the same district that faced intense pressure from activist groups like Next Generation Action Network and Freedmen Legal Fund - and ultimately allowed Karmelo Anthony to receive a diploma despite failing to meet attendance requirements and facing eligibility issues under district policy.
So the question was simple:
Would they show that same willingness to act… when it came to honoring the victim?
At first, the answer appeared to be no.
I have now spoken directly with Austin Metcalf’s father, and he confirmed that Frisco Independent School District initially planned to handle this quietly - awarding Austin his diploma without even saying his name at graduation.
But now — after pressure, scrutiny, and persistence — there has been a change of course.
Frisco ISD WILL posthumously award Austin Metcalf his diploma AND publicly honor him by saying his name during the graduation ceremony.
It matters to his family.
It matters to the community.
And it matters for the integrity of a district that was on the verge of getting this completely wrong.
This should have been the decision from the beginning! But in the end, they chose to honor a life that was taken far too soon.
And Austin Metcalf’s name will be heard

Traces of Texas reader Buddy Kinamon kindly shared this beyond spectacular photo of a store owned by his grandfather (F.P Kinamon). This is one of the best photos y'all have sent in in a long time. This was taken in the Arnold Community between Farmersville and Blue Ridge, about 40 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, in the late 1800s and I just can't over how great it is. The horse and buggy, the simple, pragmatic, utilitarian design of the store, the way the men are dressed (especially the man in suspenders with the huge cuffs on his shirt) and the stunning clarity are just really TOO MUCH.
Thank you, Buddy. Wowzers!

Correct.
If we have to suspend the Jones Act every time there is a crisis to keep prices low, why not do away with it so we always have a free market and lower prices?
Protectionism costs every American family a lot of money each year.

If suspending the Jones Act lowers oil prices, that tells you everything you need to know about the damage it causes when it is in force. Don't just suspend it. End it.

First, I want to thank everyone for the support that I have received over the last week. After being nominated at the @LPArkansas convention, I am stepping up to give you a real choice this fall. I have been very fortunate to surround myself with some great minds that care about this state as much as I do. I ask that anyone who has concerns or suggestions to call me, email me or message me, we have a lot of work to do, and I hope to have your support to make a change for a better Arkansas in November. Please share my page Colt Shelby for Arkansas and help get the word across the state. I’m ready to work for you. @75arcounties @ARGOP

There are many kids who would love to take part in the 50 Yard Challenge, but some don’t have access to a lawn mower or other yard equipment to get started. You can help by offering equipment you may no longer be using through our Adopt-A-Mower program. If you have a lawn mower, weed eater, blower, rake, or other yard tools sitting in your garage, simply fill out the form to list the equipment you’re willing to donate or loan to a child in the program. Once submitted, your listing will appear on our equipment page so families can see if there is equipment available in their area. When a parent sees a listing nearby, they can reach out and we’ll help connect you so arrangements can be made. Your generosity can help a child begin their journey of mowing free lawns for the elderly, disabled, single parents, veterans, and first responders in their community.

Harry Caray would tell the story of a beaten down Stan Musial going hitless in a Sunday doubleheader.
The heat was unbearable that day, hell could not be much hotter than a St. Louis summer day and after the game Musial walked gingerly to his car.
He looked beaten down.
He looked beat up.
Musial never seemed to think of baseball as a job, but a daytime doubleheader in St. Louis might have made him think twice about it.
'Watch this', Caray said to a friend as they watched the scene, and sure enough when Musial got to the car, there were a hundred kids waiting for him an autograph.
Stan leaned against his hot car and signed every one.
As Harry Caray stated on Stan’s last major league at bat in 1963:
“Take a look fans, take a good long look; remember his swing and the stance ...
We won’t see his like again.”
Musial at the Polo Grounds.
Seventeen times in the Top 5 in batting average.
Sixteen times in the Top 5 in on-base percentage.
Thirteen times in the Top 5 in slugging percentage.
Nine times the league leader in runs created.
16 times in his career Musial hit 30 or more doubles.
Four other times Musial hit better than .350.
Four other times he hit more than 46 doubles.
Stan Musial hit double digit triples eight times in all, he hit 30-plus homers five times, he walked more than twice as often as he struck out.
