@Mangaminx Sadly many these days see anything they dont like in fiction and must purify it to meet their moral highground. There was some argument the other day about how if you make a villan in movies then somehow your own morals match that villans.

The reason I get fairly defensive and angry about Kiseki stuff, is Falcom is one of the few remaining devs making uniquely Japanese media outside tiny indie studios. I’ve seen a tonne of series I really enjoy either be cancelled completely over the years as the west deem them problematic or watered down “for an international audience”. It’s why I accept the series for what it is even if I occasionally might not like every aspect either , because I want it to maintain its creative integrity. With Sky Remake doing so well in the West that’s great news for Falcom and I’m happy for them, but it also brings in plenty of people who play Japanese games but hate what makes them Japanese. Which is why I get defensive. You don’t need to like every aspect of something to be a fan , that would be dumb, but it’s the desire to call out things deemed “problematic” I find so frustrating as it’s posts like these and campaigns like these which have ruined so many Japanese series.

@Mangaminx There still is an amount of cultural friction that should be taken into account imo. The biggest thing for me i deem problematic is the stuff with tita and agate. Some of those scenes just make me legitimately uncomfortable when they are going for something else. Its a disconnect

@CutCutado @Rathakzie @jcsoapland The og one is shit yes It has tried and true designs like giant enemies that legit turn on you in less than a frame, magic that basicslly doesnt matter in most cases, and a final boss who to this day has a moderate chance of crashing and corrupting your save.

@Rathakzie @jcsoapland There are essentially 2 lords of the fallen, the newer one is very good, albeit it's very easy. It focuses on level design and exploration so a lot of people enjoy that. I heard the older one is kinda shit, but I haven't played it so i can't say for sure.

@CorvidDevoid I'd argue that Estelle had spats to begin with. So, her having spats again in the remake is actually consistent. Now the girls in Cold Steel don't have them(at least not in the 1st game). So if they do remake those for whatever reason....

This might sound controversial, but... I know a lot of us guys who play these games. Who definitely look up underneath the fictional female character's skirt and at their panties. But they would not do that in real life. Even if they accidentally saw it, they will just look away. Or if the girl has a wardrobe malfunction and her lingerie are visible, they will let her know and find something for her to cover herself up What do I mean by that? We know how to separate fiction from reality. And fiction is for us to do stupid things such as that. We know not to do that in real life and with real people. So I don't see why it should be replaced by spats.

Unless a remake is extremely bad from a gameplay and graphics standpoint, most people consider it the definitive version of the game in its respects. Even objectively horrible Remasters like resident evil 3 are seen as the definitive version by a majority of people. Hell RE discourse in general over the past month shows that when a remake comes out it replaces the original. And that only true fans actually like the original games

There’s nothing wrong with watching games on YouTube. As long as you don’t claim to be a fan. You don’t get to be a fan of something due to pity for your financial situation. We’re not creating fandom equity. I’ve been on the poorer side my whole life, any game I’ve watched on YouTube I don’t claim to be a fan of. To be a fan of a book, you have to read it. To be a fan of a movie, you have to watch it. To be a fan of a game, you have to play it.
