Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Kai Miller to Houston Methodist. He delivered two outstanding talks at our Neurosurgery Grand Rounds and the Center for Neural Systems Restoration seminar.
Dr. Miller shared deep insights into the use of stereo-EEG (SEEG) to guide epilepsy surgery, tailor therapies to individual patients, and push forward the boundaries of neuroscience. His work exemplifies how science, technology and thoughtful clinical practice come together to improve patient outcomes.
We were inspired by his vision and grateful for the engaging discussions that followed. Moments like these remind us how vibrant and collaborative our field can be.

It was a real pleasure to host Prof. Dion Khodagholy at Houston Methodist as part of the Center for Neural System Restoration Seminar Series. His talk provided a fascinating glimpse into the latest advances from the Translational NeuroElectronics Lab at @UCIrvine, covering innovations in bioelectronic devices, large-scale systems neuroscience, and the translation of novel technologies into clinical use.
From novel device architectures to understanding sleep, memory, and the neural basis of psychiatric disorders, his lab’s work continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible at the interface of engineering, neuroscience, and medicine.
Grateful for the engaging discussion and for the opportunity to learn from one of the leaders in the field!

Excited to share our latest perspective, The Future of Biohybrid Regenerative Bioelectronics, published in @AdvPortfolio 'Advanced Materials'!
In this work, we explore the incredible potential of biohybrid regenerative devices—cutting-edge technologies that integrate living cells with implantable devices to restore and enhance function in the nervous system and beyond. These innovations could address unmet clinical needs, such as advanced neuroprosthetics, spinal cord repair, and more.
This journey highlights years of progress, but also the challenges ahead as we refine tissue integration, regenerative capabilities, and implant longevity.
A big thank you to my amazing co-authors @AlejCarnicer and @GeorgeMalliaras.
The future of neurorestoration is bright, and this field is just getting started!
