The longer one gazes into the Abyss, the less time one has to hatch Poke eggs. That is an unwise use of ones time and visual acumen- don't gaze into the Abyss!

@ChrisCuomo Interesting point. How many of the groups the SPLC funded are still in existence after a comparable period of time to similar FBI activities? How effective has the SPLC been in reducing the amount of "crime", aa compared to the degree of crime reduced by FBI actions?

@andersostlund You started two world wars and dragged America into them. You created the Nazi's, Communists and Fascists then exported them worldwide. You created the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Colonization and left America to hold the bag for both. And yet you still look down on them.

@imPenny2x It's not Reds fault Blue chose to gamble with their lives. Red is not murdering anyone - Blue is choosing to risk their lives for their own self-gratification. If enough people choose that same gamble, yay. If not... Blue should have chosen differently.

LOTS of discussion about “pretending to be moral” if you pick the blue button. You can truck right off with the pretend part. Is it that hard to believe that some of us might choose not to want to muder others even when nobody is looking, and even it’s partially their fault?
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@edwardobanano @HunterEKozak There's no condemning of anyone by pressing Red - we ALL have that option. You either choose to live or you choose to gamble with your life. If you choose to gamble, you might lose. I choose not to gamble with my life. If you choose to gamble with yours, that's on you.

@HunterEKozak Framing is everything. Press blue, and if only half vote blue everyone survives. Versus vote red, and guarantee your own survival but risk condemning 0-50% of people to die. Not as straightforward

@rshinra @wichman_matthew @ItsRobbAllen The journals this would be published in are, by far, the most unreliable journals in the scientific world. The kind of journals that Pluckrose, Lindsey and Bospelleditwrong pranked with a ctrl-f ctrl-v level of paper.

New Trolley problem has arrived, only it's dumber. Pres Red - 100% chance of living. Blue - Non-zero chance of dying. It has nothing to do with empathy for others unless you're stuck on suicidal empathy, which is YOUR fault, not mine. There is ZERO logical reason for ANYONE to press blue. NONE.
vittorio@IterIntellectus

why would anyone even press blue?!?

@rshinra @wichman_matthew @ItsRobbAllen Nope. Red wins in the real world because people don't like to gamble with their lives when they gain NOTHING from it, and can save their lives with no more effort than pressing the right button.

@FandangoGhandi @wichman_matthew @ItsRobbAllen It wins when tested in the real world. where there is no virtue signaling and the only one seeing your choice is the tester. You just want it to be true because you think everyone is as miserable as you are. Believe me buddy, we're not.

@seedtheclouds @ItsRobbAllen No projection here - I'm pressing Red. I'm telling everyone to press Red. I'm painting my fat belly red and dancing naked in the streets to encourage people to press Red. Red red red red redredredtedredtedred. No deception, no projection, "Vote Red If You Want To Live."

@mykola There is no murder. We all have the ability to live by voting Red. You choose to risk your own life by voting Blue. That is not on my hands. Nor my conscience.

Ah this one again. To my dear rationalist friends who are so confused as to why anyone would press the blue button: I don't want anyone's blood on my hands. "But if everyone just presses red then everyone lives" yeah but that's also true for blue, plus no complicity in murder.

@FandangoGhandi @ItsRobbAllen I pushed blue comfortably knowing human psychology meant blue would have a majority. Not a large one. And that's born out. Interestingly, post- game theory discourse, other sample polls have large red majorities. I also knew IRL blue would be way ore precarious.

@rshinra @wichman_matthew @ItsRobbAllen Blue "wins" because people are seeing this as a way to virtue signal. Then they come into these threads and act smug and superior in the "Yes I voted for that Judge who released a Rapist and that Rapist raped again - I'm a Good Person." sort of way.

@seedtheclouds @ItsRobbAllen You're saying publicly you'd press the Blue button. If the push was in Private, you'd press the Red button - because you're not stupid. And you know that most people are. And they want to live - so no matter what they say in public, they're pushing Red too.

@UsmanAbidemiEsq Probably D. I'd like it to be Attempted Murder, but I'm thinking that would be like trying to argue for "Attempted Theft" for someone picking the lock on an empty safe because they wanted what they thought was in it.

The poster below holds that lining a mailbox with cement--a *passive* defensive measure against mailbox baseball--is a violation of just war theory b/c of the damage it will do to a vandal who is driving in a car with a baseball bat. This not only exhibits a poor understanding of Just War theory, it is so horrifically stupid it makes you wonder how on Earth Christianity ever surrvived the Muslim invasions. Passive fortifications are disproportionate violence? Fuck you.
The Blessed Salt 🧂@theblessedsalt

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)

@CptMuchoTexto So the victims bottle up the pain until they explode (mass shooting) because they would get punished by people like this when they defend themselves? I can see that logic for the victims. Not so much for the bullies, tho. How does that side of the equation fit in?

I will absolutely die on the hill that the main reason school shootings have become as big a problem as they have is this mindset. When you insist on shaming and punishing victims for daring to fight back, all you get is a slow moral erosion of both perpetrator and victim. Perpetrators lose their deterrent and double down on their behavior, while victims have the idea gradually planted into their heads that the moral principles guiding our society, and the authority figures who uphold them, are just there to keep them miserable.
