A leading animal rescuer with shelter,Goa says, " I think this is quite disturbing. The Championship Cat Show in Panjim scheduled on 14th dec 2025. A breeders paradise, while there are more than 20,000 desi cats suffering on the streets of Goa, not to mention the hundreds of kittens that die every month . Another NGO in Goa, which works for cats and his says:: Sadly nothing can be done. The main body responsible for the organization and regulation of cat shows in India is the Feline Club of India (FCI) @FelineClubIndia, which is the country's only active cat registry dedicated to the improvement of cat fancy in India. The FCI runs numerous regional clubs and conducts various events, including: Cat Shows: These events showcase different cat breeds and help promote high breeding standards and healthy competition. Conventions: Informative seminars on feline health, nutrition, diseases, and breed orientation are held across the country. Registration Drives: The FCI is actively involved in the registration of cats and the issuance of breed authentication and ownership certificates, a key step in ancestral tracking. To participate in an FCI-organized cat show, owners are typically required to register their cat with the organization. The FCI is affiliated with international bodies like the World Cat Federation (@wcf_ev) and The International Cat Association (@TICAcats), ensuring shows adhere to global standards. The legality of all animal-related events falls under the purview of the Animal Welfare Board of India (@animalwelfareb1), which is the statutory advisory body on animal welfare laws in the country. ..... Now my question to AWBI, when you allow such brazen breeders Paradize Cat shows, don't you have any commitment towards lakhs of Indi(Desi)-cats suffering on the streets of India, not to mention the hundreds of kittens that die every month? When such hyped Cat shows of breed cats are allowed in this country who will stand up and care for Desi cats? Is it not your responsibility? You will only wake up to this issue when some people go to the Supreme Court and another order comes? Or you also believe that while this money game is on by breeders, the State governments only are accountable to look after , subsidised facilities for Desi cats? Has @KadambaLimited began the exercise of assessing the number of dogs on its bus stand. Has the Supreme Court order directed to stop feeding existing dogs from bus stands till they are picked for sterilisation and vaccination to be kept them after that in a designated shelter? Has it checked out and assessed the needed fencing of the bus stand to ensure once it starts evicting dogs for vaccination and sterilisation new dogs do not enter its premises? @girdheralbert Sir, when you never study, never do your homework..then what else will happen..you panic and respond in the most arbitrary and confused manner. That is what is happening as @goa_edu @doe_goa @kadambalimited all are acting. Have the top officers of various departments read the Honorable Supreme Court order at least. Have they understood it. Do they understand that it is dealing with dogs, so the Supreme Court has given a time frame. Giving steps like arrange for fencing of the premises, arrange for designated shelters ...before the government authorities jump and order stopping feeding of dogs. Without realising that, sance fencing premises you remove dogs, outside dogs will replace removed ones and removed hungry dogs would flood the streets. Is this not common logic! The First action by schools is with the help of government nodal officer to assess the number of dogs in the premises. 2. Keep ready sufficient space in designated Shelter to take the dogs after they pick them up, sterilise them and vaccinate them. 3. Get ready with fencing so that once dogs are removed they are not replaced by new dogs. Unless the above things are ready no school can remove dogs, prohibit feeding and water to dogs. Massive protests break out in Goa's different parts over recent Supreme Court order which has agitated animal lovers in general and outraged dog feeders in particular after some government departments, school managements started issuing arbitrary orders and notices asking for no feeding dogs, removal of dogs from premises in a panic response without realising that Goa has not a single designated shelter for dogs as directed by the SC order, to put them after they are removed, sterilised and vaccinated. Also no thought being given to the provision in Supreme Court order to fence such premises so new dogs do not replace.
