📢 Essential Reading – 2025 Landmark Paper on Lp(a)
The Brussels International Declaration on Lipoprotein(a) Testing and Management, published in Atherosclerosis, represents the most comprehensive and authoritative document on Lp(a) to date.
☝️Highlights:
1️⃣ Establishes global consensus on the need for systematic, once-in-a-lifetime Lp(a) testing
2️⃣ Provides a detailed policy framework for integrating Lp(a) into cardiovascular prevention strategies
3️⃣ Reinforces the causal role of Lp(a) in ASCVD and aortic valve disease
4️⃣ Presents new cost-effectiveness data supporting early detection
5️⃣Advocates for equity in access, family-based screening, and protection against discrimination
This declaration is a milestone in lipidology, offering a translational bridge from evidence to practice and policy.

☝️No estimate of the apoB lipoprotein-related risk of CVD is complete without measurement of both apoB and Lp(a)
ApoB is the true core marker of atherogenic particle burden, and Lp(a) is an independent, non-negotiable player in cardiovascular risk.
✅ ApoB reflects the number of atherogenic particles, not just the cholesterol they carry.
✅ Lp(a) adds risk beyond ApoB—even in normolipidemic patients.
✅ The combination of both offers superior prediction of events and treatment guidance.
👉 It's time to stop counting cholesterol and start counting particles.
If your risk assessment doesn’t include ApoB and Lp(a), you’re not seeing the full picture.
Let’s raise the bar in preventive cardiology.

English

Hey @OC_TranspoHelps thx for the free weekend! We are checking out the new line 2, heading to Limebank. Signs inside the trains need a little work, however. (reading “Bayview, Last Stop” since we boarded at Carling) @OccTranspo

@CryptoGrimley @fitterhappierAJ 30 years ago, learning integral calculus, our prof went over exponential growth and decay, using deer populations as one example. He then looked at the class and said,"The human race is long overdue for a die-off". That stuck with me.
English

@fitterhappierAJ Why are there so many pandemics these days?
English

I hope everyone enjoyed the two month earlier suggestion for preparation that I provided

AJ Leonardi, MBBS, PhD@fitterhappierAJ
Prepare for a bird flu pandemic out of caution, however, I cant say when it will happen Preparedness looks like: 1) n95 for shared air 2) simple soaps to clean your hands Don’t worry. Just be prepared. Likely it will be less transmissible than covid but more severe.

Vote this scumbag out. He has no convictions, his word means nothing, he works for the benefit of the rich, he’s ruined the healthcare system, etc. He’s not what Ontario needs.
Tom Parkin@TomPark1n
After just this morning promising to rip up the deal, Doug Ford this afternoon (quietly) said he’s going ahead with paying Elon Musk $100M for Starlink access Possibly the worst premier ever, no wonder Ontario has become a have-not province globalnews.ca/news/10995669/…

The new #Covid KP3 subvariant is spreading like wildfire. You may want to consider masking for larger gatherings indoors. Some hospitals have returned to required masking. My anecdotal sense is that KP3 is much more than "a cold."
English

@IWeatherON we need a KP-index of 8 or higher to see anything in the Ottawa Valley.

#ONStorm #ONwx Get your cameras ready! A 'strong' G3 solar storm is forecasted to arrive tomorrow (Monday), potentially sparking the Aurora Borealis.
According to the latest forecast from the Space Weather Prediction Center, the northern lights might be visible across Canada, including Southern Ontario!
The Kp index is projected to hit 7 out of 9, which should be more than sufficient for our region. Typically, the auroras become visible in Southern Ontario when the Kp reaches 5-6.
There's one important caveat that we're all too familiar with in Southern Ontario: clear skies! Currently, it looks like clouds may move in later on Monday and linger into the overnight hours, especially in Southwestern and Eastern Ontario.
However, it shouldn't be totally clouded over, so there is still a chance to see the auroras in some areas. We will closely monitor this and provide more detailed information on the cloud cover forecast on Monday.
To maximize your viewing experience, find a location away from urban areas where light pollution can obscure the Northern Lights. Outside of that, just cross your fingers for clear skies and hope the storm arrives during nightfall.
More details soon.
