@KathyRaynaVR Exactly wild times. Even with the doom of the moment. Already have breached for much of the core tech only imagined decades ago.
English

Maybe VR is simply cyclical...
I played Dactyl Nightmare as a young kid.
I worked in Oculus era VR over a decade.
So it is very possible I get at least one more good loop in the future where the technology might breach into mainstream.
I'll be ready...
Sci-Fi Archives@SciFiArchives
Virtual Reality and the Exploration or Cyberspace (1991). These machines were pioneering commerical VR.
English

@SpatialBiggs It really is!
I keep saying... technically we're not very far from even what Ready Player One shows us, we have everything we see in both book and movie, it's just too expensive for the average consumer, but it's already possible (some things better than others!).
English

@KathyRaynaVR Absolutely. Very strange how much has become real already!
English

@SpatialBiggs Such good innocent times for VR!
It's funny because I always imagined "VR" even before it existed... and seeing these humble beginnings and anime like .hack//SIGN made me believe, and boy did it become a reality!
English

@KathyRaynaVR Dactyl Nightmare / Virtuality is what started my VR obsession lol
Very rough but an amazing childhood experience at the arcade...
An OG VR Deathmatch straight up burned into my memories!

Ngl I used to be mad at Elon but these people are really idiots lol.
Corey@CoreyTheX
Call me an idiot, but I just sent $25 directly to Elon Musk, the richest man in the world using @XMoney for no other reason than I just can. lol
English

@TheVResistance @afoxdesign Within unreason then!
Maybe it'll be cheaper if it goes well into the unreasonable and the integer overflows and rolls over back to zero!
(One can hope, right?)
English

@KathyRaynaVR @afoxdesign It's not going to be within reason. This is Valve.
English

@BattleAxeVR At 1ms yeah, that's pretty fine for home use, agreed!
Also yey for nerds! (like myself lol I'm an absolute dork)
English

The wire is pretty needed for competitive fighting games, I guess it won't matter too much for casual play, but for competitive play a single frame of lag is enough to throw things off.
I say this as a Tekken player, that single frame or two frames of delay of input lag from wireless can be the difference between dropping a combo or not in the most important of moments!
Now if it had both wireless and wired mode (and able to fully conceal the cable), then that'd be great and best of both worlds!

@KathyRaynaVR Same Steam Deck build is my low which was hard to pull off.
I think this paradigm keeps on going and we widen around there and high end goes very niche to the very few that can afford it.

I might seriously back up my min spec on PC to the GTX 970 era.
We are going to have a growing second hand hardware market built on the bones of an old crypto boom bust... mark my words.
There is no other way PC gaming truly expands other than leveraging older hardware.
Go toward the newest high performance tech at your own risk.
English

That... makes a whole lotta sense, specially when put into the Ready Player One world's perspective.
I've been using an old 10 year old laptop I have (which is around PS4 like power nowadays) and my Steam Deck as the "lower targets", if anything works reasonably well on the laptop, then it'll work great on the Deck, which means it'll run on anything.
For VR I use a slightly different test approach, by force rendering everything 3 times (instead of 2) to have a power leeway, if it can run by rendering 3 times, then it sure will run normally when it's just rendering 2 times.
English

@KathyRaynaVR Kids interested in PC gaming growing into teenagers and young adults won't be able to afford modern tech.
I think this dynamic unfolds over a 10 year curve. As tech capability expands upward it grows more niche and we go backwards.
Almost like a Ready Player One world oddly
