@KPeezoEddy I’m not convinced they will have the NIL dollars to sustain the level they reached this year. I feel like all of these projections are guesswork given how much will happen in the portal! Shaheen Holloway is a good coach, but I think he has an uphill battle there.

@Lexaphus So why does SHU step back as PC moves forward? Not disagreeing per se, just curious.

@Lexaphus I think that is completely fair and I would be happy to list them as a “HOLD.” But if you’re gonna do what I did and say half the league is gonna get better, and another quarter is gonna hold, then necessarily some teams are going to move backwards. So who do you think that is?

@KPeezoEddy I would be very surprised if they are 10th or 11th in their first Hodgson year. I'd rate 6th/7th as more likely than 10th/11th. All possible, no doubt! But to me if 9th place is "hold" then "gets worse" feels unlikely.

@Lexaphus Maybe they should be a hold, but I can’t say that they will definitively be better than Butler, X, or Gtown. They have been 9th two years in a row. Vaaks is already gone. Is anyone worthwhile staying? Truly I don’t know. I could see them having a year like Xavier just did.

@CBB_Central I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'm wondering if you could say why. It isn't self-evident to me and I am a pretty hardcore fan. Again, not saying this to be confrontational. I don't have strong feelings about you being either right or wrong. Just curious the logic.

Billy Donovan would be the best coach in college basketball tomorrow if he returned to college. And I do not think he’d even consider returning without a pretty significant front office-type structure in place to help him navigate the recruiting side.
Dan Wolken@DanWolken

If this comes to fruition, will be interesting to see if he has interest in a return to college. If I’m an AD, you’d really have to do a lot of leg work to see whether it’s a good idea to bring back someone who hasn’t been in college for 15 years. So much has changed.

100%. Some might consider themselves among the world’s smartest, only to then discover that this was never offered as “proof” - but rather commentary on how looking at the entire chart is stupid when a trend is emerging post-NIL - and that they do indeed struggle with reading and context and aren’t as smart as they think they are. I have considered this possibility, I just don’t distinguish between them and the smooth brains.

@tweetweet_mfer @GfedGoCrazy 100%. But have you considered that if in the next 5 years it draws out all of the world’s smartest people — who don’t struggle to put words and charts into context — then it will be proven as an incredible tweet for summoning smart people?

@tweetweet_mfer @GfedGoCrazy This might be my favorite tweet of all time. I’m calling it the Chicken-Pox Romana. It is the Mona Lisa of bad Twitter takes. I will pay to go to a museum to look back at it fondly. “If I draw chicken pox hypotheticals on a graph, my point will be proven” is awesome. You rule.

@msulionsfan @NotJ0NRoth Wow, thank you for the lesson! I’m glad you, a true basketball fan, have come through with such wise counsel so that I learn why most NCAA tournament games are a waste of my time. I’m just a lowly hack who enjoys ball, but now I’ve been educated about why I should enjoy it less.

@Lexaphus @NotJ0NRoth There’s a difference. Men’s have low seeds win somewhat often. The lowest seed to win the women’s is a 3 and it’s only happened 3 times, that’s fucking awful

Wife asked me to go to Lunch with her today after 60+ failed attempts. During the worst Monday of the calendar year.. I accepted. She wanted to go somewhere fancy, I told her The Cheesecake Factory it is then honey. The pumpernickel rolls are helping me cope with the worst Monday on the calendar. It’s. Still. March.

@msulionsfan @NotJ0NRoth You’re right. It makes sense as a sports fan to only care about games whose winner becomes the national champion. It’s much cooler than being one of the millions who would fill out a bracket where you pick the results of 63 games, where only 6 of them feature the national champ.

@MattGrossenbach There is increasing support for fascism, where might makes right. People in this headspace only enjoy supporting things that exemplify power. Underdogs are weakness to them. They reject that there’s beauty in marginalized people (or teams) having moments where they beat the odds.

@THEEJoeMess @GrizzlyVol @GoodmanHoops “Watch better basketball” is an argument against watching college basketball. The NBA exists. Hell, the G League exists. People don’t watch the tourney for great basketball they watch for great stories. You know this, deep down, because you’re not watching G League this week.

Favorites went 16-0 yesterday. This year's first round had 13 of 32 games decided by 20+ points. High Point only true mid-major still alive, and its NIL is probably most of any team in 1-bid league. I hate to admit it, but due to NIL & transfer portal, Cinderellas may be dead.

@JonRothstein Listen I’m a rabbi — I agree but also I’m ready to officiate an at-the-game Bar/Bat mitzvah at any arena hosting the tourney. We’ll bring in a Torah and the kid will chant their reading at the under-16. Soundtrack at the game isn’t so different from most bar mitzvah dance floors.

So…. they don’t get any protected seeds and don’t make any Sweet 16’s, but consistently wear home whites and have won tournament games three times in five years. For a small school of 2000 undergrads in a mid-major league. Not seeing the issue here
