@SenSanders Pass legislation that makes insurance agencies offer insurance in all states creating incentive for them to compete and lower prices, along with capping premiums. Cap malpractice suits, force hospitals and doctors to stop overcharging.

I’m no great fan of the ACA. I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system. But — at minimum — we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.

I'm voting no. In the richest country in the world, families shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table and their health care. But that’s exactly what Donald Trump has done to Americans with this shutdown. There should’ve never been a shutdown in the first place, and I worked to find a solution with Republicans and this administration. But Donald Trump has proven he doesn’t care about rising costs, skyrocketing health care premiums, or working families struggling to put food on the table. He has spent more time working on his ballroom than working to open the government. He sued to block food assistance for hungry families. I’ve spent the last month hearing from Arizonans worried they can’t afford health care and families who were going broke and hungry because the government was shut down. That’s who I’m fighting for. But Donald Trump rejected a straightforward compromise that would have best served all Americans by reopening the government and keeping health care from becoming unaffordable and out of reach for millions, including thousands of Arizonans. If he’s ready to get serious on a solution to keep health care premiums from spiking, I'm ready to work, but everything he’s done suggests he just doesn’t care.

SNAP literally only pays for food. That’s all it can be used for. We haven’t had actual welfare checks for like 30 years.

With great power comes great responsibility. Republicans are in charge right now. They may not have 60 votes, but they hold the gavel, and that means it’s on them to negotiate. You cannot keep the government closed, refuse to talk, and then blame Democrats for the mess you created.

@EdKrassen Ed. Stop. You know 7 democrats could vote yes in the clean CR and the government would reopen. It would be one thing if the CR had pork in it that the Dems disagreed with, but thats not the case.

Republicans seem intent on allowing SNAP benefits run out in November. They are willing to take food away from 16 million children, 8 million older adults and 4 million people with disabilities. 1 in 8 Americans get SNAP benefits. Every dollar in Snap Benefits creates $1.50 in economic activity. It helps the economy.
