I'm Japanese. I’m not sure if this post will reach people overseas, but given the recent uproar over the official translation of UT, I feel that a misconception regarding the official JP translation has been spreading abroad. Therefore, I’d like to share my thoughts;

@poppin1w3 I thought it was the opposite. She was surprised he knew where they were without seeing them. I always interpreted Maki and Toji as using the same method as Daido. They can see everything around them so well that there's no functional difference.

@AustinAtki41488 @October_XII thats actually a good thing to bring up. Because of Domain Amplification the fight was effectively Gojo without infinity vs Sukuna without shrine, Mahoraga, and Agito. So to say any character would beat Gojo without infinity, youd also have to say they'd do better than Gojo did.

@Jaereku if you confuse loss of nuance with the death of art, you’re missing the point. Translation doesn’t destroy a work it reinterprets it. Meaning isn’t fixed even within one language, so translation doesn’t ‘break’ art, it expands its reach.

Unpopular take maybe? But the idea that art made within one culture MUST be made accessible to every other group is absurd and anti-art.
I mean us Turkish speakers have even less translations than Hispanophones, yet I’ve never seen the equivalent of this meltdown in Turkey?

Of all the Toby Fox discourse, this is the one that really got me. This is truly the thing that defines the conflict. People who speak in native english are incapable of understanding what it's like to have most art NOT made for your native language. It's baffling to me.

Accessibility would be nice, I agree on that, although that's because I believe artists should want to share their work with the world, rather than because the world should have access to everyone's art
