Devastated mum Wendy Duffy, 56, is travelling to a Swiss suicide clinic this week because she says she is too heartbroken to live without her only son. Marcus, 23, died four years ago after choking on a cherry tomato while asleep on the sofa at their home in the West Midlands. Wendy, a former care worker, tried to take her own life once before but survived. She told doctors the grief has become unbearable agony and no amount of therapy or medication can fix it. She has been approved for assisted dying at the Pegasos clinic in Basel and has already paid the £10,000 fee using her life savings. Her family say they fully support her heartbreaking decision even though they are devastated to lose her. Wendy is due to end her life on Friday 24 April. She has asked for her ashes to be scattered at the park bench where she used to sit and talk to Marcus every single night.

@JasperTractor @TheGriftReport I’m an atheist so I agree with your first part - not everyone wants to get old, and if life becomes unbearable, everyone should have a right to die in dignity. I’m happy to live in a country where this is possible.

@TheGriftReport Am I the only one that is okay with this? Not everyone wants to grow old. If life is full of pain and unbearable, why not go to God's heaven and be at peace with your loved ones.
