FLORIDA WOMAN CALLS POLICE ON NEIGHBOR FOR HAVING A BRITISH ACCENT — TELLS OFFICERS “WE ALREADY WON THAT WAR” Police in Florida say they responded to one of the more unusual complaints of the week after a woman allegedly called authorities to report her neighbor for “suspicious British activity.” According to officers in Tampa Bay, the woman contacted police claiming a man living next door had been “speaking with a British accent for several days” and she believed something wasn’t right. Dispatch records say the caller insisted the accent was “clearly intentional.” When the operator asked if the neighbor had threatened her or committed any crime, the woman reportedly replied: “No, but he keeps talking like he’s from England and I’m pretty sure we already settled that.” Officers arrived at the apartment complex to investigate and spoke with the neighbor in question, who turned out to be a graduate student from London attending a nearby university. Police say the man was extremely confused about why officers were asking about his accent. According to the report, the woman had confronted him earlier that day and demanded he “stop pretending to be British.” Witnesses say she allegedly told him: “We won that war and you know it.” The man reportedly tried to explain that he was, in fact, actually British and had recently moved to Florida for school. The explanation did not appear to resolve the situation. Police say the woman then called authorities claiming the accent was “historically inappropriate.” When officers explained that speaking with a British accent is not illegal, the woman reportedly asked if there was “a permit required for foreign accents in residential neighborhoods.” Authorities confirmed there is not. Police say the call was ultimately classified as misuse of emergency services after determining no crime had occurred. The British neighbor reportedly handled the situation calmly and told officers he had “no plans to change his accent anytime soon.” As for the woman, officers advised her that international history disputes are not a police matter. One officer later joked in the report: “In 2026 we can confirm the Revolutionary War remains fully resolved.”
