Since Ep3, Star Wars movies have had diminishing returns from the box office. I've had no friends ask me about this movie. The trailer has less views than the SW Angry Birds Darth Maul teaser. Apathy is death and we're seeing it in real time.

Correct. Not to beat a dead horse but Star Wars is NOT in a good place in terms of pop culture relevance. Fan interest outside of niche online spaces is lower than it has been in a long time. Disney should be doing more to market what’s coming!

@PeoplePodcasts I mean fine is fine, but the trend is what concerns me It's the 3rd SW release in a row to not recover it's expense at the box office And 2 of those are pre-Covid Prior to this, all 8 other SW movie made back their expense plus some profit with just their initial box office

@comfortable8374 For Disney on that sort of low budget movie its probably fine. Don't forget there main source of income is the Parks etc. They do also have films like Avatar and Toy Story 5 we should make big bucks. Starfighter though will have to do a lot better.

@DominicAmara2 Agreed, BF2 did a great job with his character. I lean harder into the EU as times goes on. It, with a few exceptions, feels like a natural progression of Luke

Precisely. The interesting thing about Luke was that he blended old Jedi training with the best traits of humanity (love, friendship, loyalty, willingness to sacrifice for the ones you love) The post RotJ Luke now feels like a regression, totally different person

@Irina_exh Yes, I watch all the superhero, sci-fi, etc movies in theater Seen a lot of stinkers lately, seen a few good movies (MotU was fun) I form my own opinions based on my viewing, not internet rhetoric Which to be fair, I've seen heavily slanted in both directions

Yes people do change over time However core values like willingness to give up all to save the ones you love tend to remain intact When Luke confronted Kylo on Crait he never felt bad or apologized, he made fun of Kylo That's not character progression

I feel a lot of people don’t think about, or realize, how much a person can change as they grow older. Especially after living through different types of trauma. Sure, people will or can retain certain characteristics, but their outlook may change, their desires, likes or interests, or even relationships with people they care about. Hell, sometimes they can become completely unrecognizable, for better or worse. Life and the environment you find yourself in can really have an impact on who you are as a person. To think someone is going to be the same person in their teens or early 20’s after 20+ years, and loads of adversity, is a bit foolish.

@drew_downs I respect your point. However, when in a similar situation in RotJ, Luke had a decision between saving his father or helping the rebellion. He chose to save his father, even when Vader turned him over to the Emperor. He still didn't give up. That devotion, and lack thereof

@comfortable8374 You also gotta realize that when we follow a character for a long time, seeing who they are, theirs going to be push back if you dramatically change them. That kind of change I think you have to show happen instead of just dropping it on us like Last Jedi did.

@comfortable8374 @oldmansteeb If Ben accepted the apology, TLJ would’ve ended a whole different way. He rejected it. He was given a chance to forgive Luke and turned it away. In fact. Ben’s first words to Luke prove he expected to still be treated like the villain rather than a victim.
