Sports Illustrated illustrating just how irrelevant it has become. Any list without Reg Date or Joe Marston may as well be a bunch of names. As good as these guys are, there are probably another half-dozen that would make their way into a Top 20 ahead of this group.

@DeanRosario @KaptinYap My memory on the particulars is vague, but it was definitely Okon related. It's easy to examine the squad in hindsight, but both players were well passed their best by this point. Okon played just 30 matches in 4 seasons but was still better than what we had to choose from.

Gah, looking into it deeper, and both @OzFootballNet and the @smfc historian's spreadsheet have this wrong - the NSL Cup match was actually on the Friday (20th) and the Dockerty Cup match on the Sunday (22nd). Still, the schedule was absurdly condensed, as seen in this article.

Going through the record books to see the last time @smfc played two senior level men's games in two days - and it was as recent as 1996. September 21, beat @MelbKnights 1-0 in the pre-season NSL Cup, and September 22 beat Box Hill 4-0 in a #DockertyCup quarter final.

@NickStoll @joeylynchy Entirely replicable. If your only motivation to play here is $$$, than the marquee system is constantly doomed to fail. We are not Europe, we are barely part of the global football economy, but the 'sell' is in the lifestyle and the impact they can have in a non-football market.

So, after a week of using (and sometimes avoiding) the Metro Tunnel to commute to work, this is one final vent on the topic (until footy season proper), in order to avoid complaining about the Metro Tunnel and how it's stuffed my daily commute becoming my entire personality.

@MarkBoric Good call... I'll pick up a host of my own transcription errors when I run it through my own auditing process. Have a few 2021 NPL3 line-ups to go, but once done, will have a close-to-complete snapshot of the 2nd/3rd tier semi-pro line-ups dating back to 2004.
