A dry cleaner ruined one of my shirts recently, and I decided not to do anything about it. Why? They would have pushed back and insisted they didn’t do it. I would have explained why they were wrong, and they would have denied it again. I would have told them I’d never come back unless they reimbursed me, and the back and forth would have continued. Frankly, dealing with that kind of conflict over a shirt that costs a couple hundred dollars isn’t worth my time or energy at this point in life. Yes, people should be held accountable, and there should be consequences for actions, and this stuff should be viewed on a case-by-case. But in this case, it was a no brainer. All downside. I’m just not going to go back. Sometimes you have to weigh the upside, pick your battles, and choose being smart over being right.

Building custom homes are an excruciating pain in problem solving for developers. Some developers even ask themselves why they go through that but it pays the bills. I wonder what’s their margin in building custom houses 50%-100% ? Needs to be really high to justify sleepless nights and headaches

I just mistakenly underquoted a job. Was in a rush getting to the next quote and fat fingered a 2 instead of a 3. Lady emails me back right away and says we're 3x higher than her other quote. I quoted $2700 and it should have been $3700. She says she got one for $900 You guys... this job could either be done one of two ways... Either you do it by hand and it's going to take a team of 5 guys over a week to do it. Or you have a specialized remote control forestry machine and you can do it in a couple days. We're the only company in the city that does residential that has one. $900 is less than the depreciation cost of this machine for this job even if someone else did have one. So one of these things is true... Either she's about to get scammed out of a deposit, someone is going to try and use a CTL and get themselves killed, or she found someone who has no idea wtf they got themselves into 😂 🤦‍♂️

@integerhomes Friend of More Neighbours? It’s also true that there are homes demolished that aren’t past their lifespan. Your definition of better use is open to interpretation depending on wants and needs of the consumer.

Realtor.ca: New townhomes in Calgary inner-city neighbourhoods selling for between $600K to $700K+ in some areas. Those are not affordable. Developers buying inner-city single-family homes for average prices around $800K then selling townhomes between $600K & $700K.

Razor has pointed this out many times, but it's important to repeat here again. Canada has no SPR. Canada could barely save Alberta back in 2018 when WCS-WTI differentials blew out. Canada has one of the best gas basins in the world (Montney) and somehow couldn't even build LNG export facilities, which would be gushing money today due to the Qatar outage. The LNG export facility would've been one of the most prized strategic energy assets in the world (proximity to Asia and low natural gas costs). Yes, it somehow got ~3 Bcf/d, which is peanuts compared to the resource potential. Instead, AECO is going to sit permanently in the shit territory because Canada couldn't get its head out of its ass, as it was one of the first countries in the world to go "woke".

Becoming a builder/developer without basically unlimited capital is a vanity play. You front tens (sometimes hundreds) of thousands, wait years and you’re the last one to get paid. Makes flipping houses look like the easiest business in the world.
