Some people also think that the value of the Next Bridge assets is tied to the value of the $MMTLP shares at the time settlement was to take place. Short sellers sold something they were yet to locate. Brokerages like @etrade didn't allow for their clients to hold positions in private companies, so any short positions on their platform were going to be forced to buy-in. Let's do a quick lesson on Identifiers 💥 • ISIN = International Securities Identification Number • FIGI = Financial Instrument Global Identifier Both systems are used to track securities globally, but FIGIs provide more details. They can identify: • Country of listing • Exchanges listed on • Share class Think of FIGIs as the fingerprints of the financial world. They are the most in depth identifier.🕵️‍♂️FIGIs also stay with the same instrument in perpetuity, there are few reasons to change a FIGI. This is why at the time of the name change, the ISIN was re-assigned but the FIGI stayed the same. Now CUSIPs are pretty basic. The acronym stands for the Committee on Uniform Security Identification Procedures. These identifiers are used ONLY in US and Canada and are basically the middle section of an ISIN. But here’s the kicker: They assigned it an official ISIN [US 89102U202 4] (the K+L Gates 'error' ISIN), instead of creating a new instrument. 🤔 Then, on June 28, 2021—after the $TRCH/$MMAT merger—the ISIN [US 89102U202 4] was swapped out and replaced with a new one, [US 59134N203 6], which we now know as #MMTLP. OpenFIGI has cited a name change Corporate Action as the reason for the identifier swap. So far, this makes sense. The Preferred shares were a spin-off/new company that required a new FIGI identifier. The Corporate Action does justify a new ISIN identifier.
