we already see this with ai psychosis retards saying writing more LOC as some kind of progress metric because it’s “action”

this frames a false dichotomy. if everyone is acting without thinking, the edge is thinking. the tweet assumes you’re competing against deliberators but the actual population is reactive and unthinking. also conflates all cognition with slow deliberation when some of the best thinking is instantaneous (intuition has no latency). and action only produces information if you have a model to update against, otherwise it’s just noise. the ironic part here is that vcs are literally paid to overthink publicly so they stay top of mind. the “just act” guy is posting the most thought leadership.
signüll@signulll

this is the only way to approach modern life is by retard maxxxing primarily cuz optionality pools are so deep that deliberation has become a cost (it used to be an edge). by the time you've mapped the decision tree, the branch you wanted has been pruned. in simple terms, most ppl just think about doing but never do. but overthinking is latency. & latency kills in environments where the reward function updates faster than your model of it.

“fake work” and “bullshit jobs” has been fantastically wrong and misleading for understanding the modern world. a much better understanding is of a global economy where minor skill differences and improvements lead to monumentally different outcomes, and the marginal hour of work has never been more measurable or useful after the advent of even moderately effective talent allocation systems and the variability of reward based on effort and skill, people have engaged much harder in a red queen rat race across the world. this is why the Chinese ‘cram schools’ exist and why ‘yuppie striverism’ is a thing and why people trade off later family formation for working more so often. while overall work hours are slightly down, they are actually up for high earners (nber.org/digest/jul06/w…) I see it in the marginal effect with my friends now after the advent of claude and codex: they are actually working harder now than they ever have before. this is due to a personal Jevon’s paradox where they see that the value of their time has increased dramatically, that they can get a lot more visible work done towards goals they care about than they used to after requests from their customers the labs are doing things like inventing dispatch which lets you monitor work and manipulate your computer from your phone, on top of prior changes like having always on communications (slack). You hear about people launching codex jobs from their phone the moment they have an idea and reviewing them later no clue how long this lasts but the most immediate impact of co-existing with the machine state is higher productivity and higher visibility which leads to more work hours

has language ever evolved this fast.. ? i literally have to check urban dictionary like at least 10 times a day cuz i am totally lost at what some of these words actually mean.. like “ascension”, “slaymaxxing”, or “peak adam”, i mean entire micro dialects are spinning up overnight & maybe also decaying faster than ever. feels like every niche is minting its own vocabulary in real time. it’ll be interesting when llm’s actually start making words up & ppl just go with it. although maybe i’m just getting old. now get off my lawn.

@farbood How are you able to order all the labs you want? Normally, doctors don't just give you whatever you ask for. There has to be a probable cause for them to order the long-tail of tests. From my understanding, this was the main value of function, to let you get around this.

Canceling my Function membership. Same labs through my insurance $65. Function charges me $309. Quest appointments are so easy now. I get lab orders for whatever I want from my doc, book with Quest, submit to my insurance and I get $3000 of labs for $65.

This is a really good heuristic. The only downside is that someone will later invent a name for what you do, and you probably won't like it.

@nikunj is one of the few VC's consistently sounding the alarm on the exponential growth of bullshit, fraud, and general decline in conscientiousness in the valley. More VC's need to step up and call out this shit but ofc they won't this will not lead to portco's getting marked up
Nikunj Kothari@nikunj

I *think* the tide is finally going to turn on all the actors (LPs, VCs, founders, employees) who believe momentum is simply everything.. It has led to terrible trickle down effects across the entire ecosystem (manipulating data, no diligence, growth at all costs etc.) As they say, what goes up must eventually come down. I hope these are not infamous last words, but I’m hopeful 🤞
