A major provincial investment is set to advance the first phase of the Scarborough Junction Masterplan, a transit-oriented community planned around Scarborough GO station. The Ontario government has announced an investment of up to $178 million through the Building Ontario Fund (BOF) to support approximately 1,700 purpose-built rental homes, including 340 affordable units with below-market rents. urbantoronto.ca/news/2026/06/p…

Microsoft says it'll replace the ancient Windows 11 dialog box with a modern rewrite (WinUI) in a major design update. Microsoft confirmed that the company is working through older Windows dialogs and rewriting them in WinUI 3. The file copy dialog is already done internally, and the common file dialog is on the list. That matters because Windows 11 still feels split between two eras. Some parts look modern, while basic dialogs still feel like they were pulled from decades-old Windows code. The good news is this is not just “dark mode.” Microsoft is actually rebuilding these surfaces in WinUI. The concern, of course, is performance. WinUI has not always been fast. But Microsoft says the new Run dialog opens faster than the legacy one, with a 94ms median time-to-show versus 103ms for the old version. That is the right direction. Modern UI is fine, but only if it stays fast.

@ColinDMello Bye bye, Ford. I hope you enjoy your break. Maybe your party will be pressured to pick a new leader by the time you return.

And thus marks the end of the legislative session. Premier Doug Ford is asking the Lt Gov to come to the Ontario Legislature to give Royal Assent. The legislature has only sat for 29.5 days and is wrapping up two days early. #onpoli

@ColinDMello Absolutely disgusting and reprehensible. @fordnation you are a disgrace to the democratic process of Ontario. Working for Ontarians means being in the legislature as part of that job. You don’t want to be there? Resign! Go spend time at your Muskoka mansion.

NEW: the Ford government confirms the Ontario legislature will begin a 102-day summer break today, not returning until Oct. 27. Government house leader Steve Clark explains the province doesn’t want to interfere with the municipal elections, so they’ll return the day after.

🚨 BREAKING: The Ontario Legislature won’t return until October 27 ~5 months of no Question Period. No accountability. No debate. Steve Clark, the House Leader, the man who resigned over the Greenbelt scandal, says they don’t want to “interfere in municipal elections.” Odd excuse, given that this is same Ford government that cancelled regional chair elections mid campaign. Cut Toronto’s council size mid election. Used strong mayor powers to override councils. Here’s real reason: Canada is in recession. Carney is collapsing in the polls. Ford is propping Carney up by going dark. Ford is avoiding accountability himself. This is the second time Ford has done this in less than a year. Insane.

@mario4thenorth What can we do to cause Ford to wake up from his early summer vacation? A general strike?

@mweinbach That is true for me, but to an extent. I am not going to pay $2000 or $4000 if I can get the same or similar features for $1000 or $2000, even if it's not an OLED screen, and the device still looks good.

My view on RTX Spark and Surface Laptop Ultra and new Windows updates at build Microsoft might get me back to Windows. Surface Laptop Ultra is nearly a MacBook Pro with similar specs and performance. The Windows updates solve the annoying stuff with Windows… hmmm

Toronto Poles and Dangling Wires
Wellington Mystery 1 To those who say burying the electrical poles cost too much. Why can you spend 1 billion+ on The Well, put in extra wide sidewalks with landscaping but then not deal with this? Even if you don’t bury them, shouldn’t there be some aesthetic standard???

@jedwinmok @JRUrbaneNetwork @moretransitso Fire the incompetent. This is unacceptable. I see no reason why our transit costs should be so much higher. There are reasons that it's more expensive, but I bet almost all of those reasons are related to laziness and enriching one or more people.

@DavefromTO @RM_Transit Fair point. I am sure that if someone falls under the train, they will still be killed or severely injured. Platform screen doors (which are the best) or even Japanese gates and fences (better than nothing) would be a better solution.

@RM_Transit They come into the station slow because of jumpers. It's fine - the problem is the constant slow downs between stations.

Toronto is too slow. This subway line moves more people than the 401 and it appears to operate worse every single year.
