Mattias Skjelmose’s statements this season:
1. “When the gap is that big, and my numbers are that good, then it's probably not just the legs that are the issue. Maybe some engineers need to get to work.”
2. “It's been a bit of a strange conversation because I really wanted to ride the Giro, but the team insisted that I ride the Tour. After my Vuelta, I saw that the Giro was the most natural step in terms of developing myself as a GC rider. I personally don't think I'm quite ready for the Tour yet and to perform in a general classification context in the Tour.”
3. “LIDL-Trek told me that they believe in me. I don't know how it's connected that Ayuso has come in. They've been telling me for a couple of years now that they want to build a team around me. But I don't think they've brought him in as a support rider.“

His contract is ending at the end of the next season and personally I see a lot of tense and he may really leave the team despite spending there his whole career.
