My father, an old-school Marxist in his seventies, attended yesterday's march against antisemitism… it was his first protest in years. He was furious. He couldn't understand why the Left were absent from the march. In his mind, the Left always led the marches against antisemitism. They stood in solidarity with its victims. He kept asking: Where were the Trade Unions? Where were the banners of the Left? Where were the anti-fascists? Where was the Left? When I explained to him that the so-called champions of anti-racism were branding this as a "march for genocide", he was outraged. In response to a 1500% rise in antisemitism, the Jewish community organised our biggest protest since Cable Street and the Left abandoned us. Those who oppose a march against antisemitism are not anti-racist… they're racist.
