These are my honest thoughts on the DEADLINE mini album by BLACKPINK: I have been sitting with it, trying to understand why it does not fully click for me. And I think what keeps coming back to me is how separate it sounds. They have been together for almost ten years. That is a long time to grow alongside each other, to understand each other’s rhythms, strengths, instincts. So it feels a little crazy to me that this time around, the album does not sound unified. What stands out to me the most is how much I can hear them as individuals. I actually think they grew a lot during their solo eras. It is obvious that they learned more about their own tastes, their own production styles, the kinds of sounds that suit them. That growth is not the problem. If anything, it is very clear. But instead of that growth being reshaped into something collective, it feels like it stayed individual. When I listen to DEADLINE, it sounds less like one group telling a story and more like four solo perspectives placed into the same project. At times it feels like I am listening to mini solo albums that happen to share the same tracklist. I can hear where one artistic identity is strongest, then it shifts and I feel another one take over. The transitions do not always feel natural to me. They feel noticeable. And maybe that is what keeps pulling me out of it. I am too aware of each separate vision. I am not sinking into one shared sound. I think I expected their solo growth to strengthen the group as a whole. I expected it to make BLACKPINK feel even more cohesive after all these years. Instead, it made me more aware of the space between them. That is why this mini album does not feel cohesive to me. It feels like four artists who have grown a lot individually, but who have not fully blended that growth back into one unified identity.
