You can tell that all these people yapping about Larkin have never had to lead a group of people in anything. The DNA of the roster makeup is conflicted. You have 3 guys in 53, 71, and 93 who seem to always have their motors going. That’s in their DNA. You can make the argument for a couple other guys to be in this group too. Then you have a few other guys who are capable of having their motors going but it’s too inconsistent. Couple games here and there but can’t put it all together or are too young and still figuring it out. They are either too inconsistent to know what their DNA is or are young and still figuring that out. This leads to a mixed bag of good and bad output. Then you have the rest (which is like seemingly half) who have their motors going once a month or less. Too many guys who treat two-thirds (or more) of the season as cardio and nothing else. That is their DNA, hard for them to have a reliably helpful output due to lack of talent, effort or care (idk what it is). Completely unreliable when the pressure is turned way up. Maybe the “boss” (ownership; management) should hire better “employees” (players) who aren’t just looking for a paycheck and are looking to be a part of a solution for the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club. All you’re doing is screwing over the core by surrounding them with “bad employees” who “call in” way too often. What are Larkin, DeBrincat, and Seider supposed to do about all that other than continuing to be the best players on the roster night in and night out?

@mortimersmith__ @RedWingVictory I don't mind that. It can be really hard on some young guys though. But if you look around the league plenty of young guys enter the league and are successful.

AHLers would be able to play with the team in two weeks if it doesn’t work out… and if a team idiotically claims one of those guys off waivers, their contract is off the books next year. Win/win There’s no way the NHL roster as is will get into playoffs. Do something wild for a change, SY

@madebymolnar @RedWingDiehards That's very true. We've had some success with attracting talent (Cat and Kane) but it's nowhere near what it used to be.

@BeyondXGoals @RedWingDiehards When the wings were successful it was because they got the Russian players to come to the US. The Wings have been completely boned in the draft lottery, this rebuild is going to take time.

Ideally that will happen. He'll head into the season with a lot of the same dead weight but he'll give Kasper, Finnie, Danielson, MBN, and ASP the opportunity to work their way into those positions. Kasper, Finnie, and ASP just never really seized that opportunity this year. But as they continue developing they'll outperform Copp and them and take those spots.

I guess you can put a time frame to it. But the goal is to fill the top 9 forwards and top 4 defensemen with prospects. So far we've only really filled one forward spot and two defensive spots. Kasper and Finnie are developing themselves into two more of the forward spots and ASP is developing into a defensive spot. The goal has always been to rebuild through the draft. If the prospects begin to fail to meet their expectations then the seat will get hot.

I think it depends what you mean by new. Danielson, MBN, and Cossa will probably earn full time spots. You might see Lombardi, Johansson, or Wallinder if any of them seize the opportunity. And there will probably be one or two players we snag from free agency or trades. The FA market is pretty bad though.

This should be my last Red Wings post for the season but how many new faces do we expect next year? 2-3? How’s anything going to change when you keep running back these same “jerseys” that float around the ice?
