You can tell that all these people yapping about Larkin have never had to lead a group of people in anything. The DNA of the roster makeup is conflicted. You have 3 guys in 53, 71, and 93 who seem to always have their motors going. That’s in their DNA. You can make the argument for a couple other guys to be in this group too. Then you have a few other guys who are capable of having their motors going but it’s too inconsistent. Couple games here and there but can’t put it all together or are too young and still figuring it out. They are either too inconsistent to know what their DNA is or are young and still figuring that out. This leads to a mixed bag of good and bad output. Then you have the rest (which is like seemingly half) who have their motors going once a month or less. Too many guys who treat two-thirds (or more) of the season as cardio and nothing else. That is their DNA, hard for them to have a reliably helpful output due to lack of talent, effort or care (idk what it is). Completely unreliable when the pressure is turned way up. Maybe the “boss” (ownership; management) should hire better “employees” (players) who aren’t just looking for a paycheck and are looking to be a part of a solution for the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club. All you’re doing is screwing over the core by surrounding them with “bad employees” who “call in” way too often. What are Larkin, DeBrincat, and Seider supposed to do about all that other than continuing to be the best players on the roster night in and night out?

@georgemalik Wow the captain can only inspire himself to play with passion and not his teammates, WHICH IS HIS JOB

@BeyondXGoals @RedWingDiehards When the wings were successful it was because they got the Russian players to come to the US. The Wings have been completely boned in the draft lottery, this rebuild is going to take time.

Yea but people need to come to the reality that this has always been the plan. To build through youth. The team will be better when the young players are better. So far Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson are ready. Kasper, Finnie, Danielson, and ASP haven't matured to the level to help yet. And Cossa, MBN, Plante, Augustine, Bear, and Genborg are still a year or more away from being an impact. Larkin won't get help until those players are ready to help. That's been the plan since the beginning. And it's not going to change now. Whether it's right or wrong, only time will tell.

@BeyondXGoals @RedWingDiehards I get that it is hard for this fan base to not make the playoffs after being spoiled for so long. Detroit isn't a prime place to live and it is difficult to attract good players. I mean where would you pick Florida, Tampa Bay, or Detroit?

It probably doesn’t help with “The Captain” GM hovering over the group. I feel like there has to be some sort of who’s in charge feeling in the locker room. The answer…. All of them are in charge. That’s why McClellan told them they control their destiny. All of the gliding, (poor)passing, lack of net presence proves that for some reason there is no drive to make the playoffs. I’m not sure as a hockey player what motivation you need. You’ve got your money. So what else is there? Do they just hate playing here?

Caught the preseason finale this morning (was locked into that massive Tigers W last night) and holy cow what a game. I genuinely don’t know how you field the “best possible team your NHL club can” on 10/9 without Finnie, MBN, and ASP. They have all earned it. Love Finnie’s versatility and Hockey IQ. Love MBN’s shot and heavy play. Love ASP’s creativity and elusiveness. They’re seemingly very useful players, and this team needs as many of those as they can fit in the group of 23. Very curious to see the final roster submission tomorrow. #TakeTheKids #LGRW

At the Premiers’ meeting tomorrow, Mark Carney must announce a repeal of the industrial carbon tax, the energy cap, the no-pipelines law and tanker ban and set up Shovel Ready Zones to get things built. Otherwise, this will be just another Liberal PR stunt like the last ten years. Time to get the federal government out of the way to release trillions in riches from our ground and break our dependence on the U.S.

The Yzerplan. Lazyboy GM’s on social media think they know how to run a team better than Yzerman. You see how good Tampa Bay is? They’ve been a dynasty basically since 2012 - he built that team. They got a first overall stamkos which helped them, the wings have never gotten that, despite only winning 17 games and being one of the worst teams of all time in 2020. Highest overall pick being 4th in all of this rebuild. Anyway, look at the prospects Danielson Soderblom Kasper Buchelnikov ( leads KHL in under 23 scoring, about the break Kaprizov’s record - look him up, he’s nasty.) Mazur Lombardi Emmit Finnie having a monster year (7th round pick btw) MBN Edvinsson ASP ( just broke all time goals by a dman in the SHL, he’s 19 btw) Aljo Wallinder Tuimisto Beaum Cossa Augustine And that’s not even all of them. Seider and Raymond aren’t what I’d call prospects but they are stars under 23. The yzerplan is in a very good spot. Only casual Walmart fans think otherwise.

Can’t even believe I have to say this AGAIN, but to anyone doubting the Yzerplan because we didn’t bring in any big names on deadline day, look at our division and what the teams ahead of us did. It’s literally that simple. #LGRW

@StrayCryptoDog @GrindLinePod At what cost? We are not going to contend this year let's be honest. Do you think getting a guy like say Carlo is going to move the needle? Would it be worth a first and a prospect?

@GrindLinePod He seems to only think in terms of “rentals”.. when there are plenty of players out there with long term contracts that are available. There’s a middle ground between “mortgaging the future” and doing NOTHING to help the rebuild. If you’re not adding, you’re not truly rebuilding.

Yzerman Trade 2025 Deadline Presser Notes: - How did today go? They didn't do everything they wanted to do. Had areas they wanted to address. Getting Mrazek and Smith. Smith acquired because of the loss of Mazur and Fischer - Hoping Mrazek can provide a boost in net. - Were not prepared to sacrifice future assets for a rental player. There were not a lot of options for players that fit the age group with term. - How does goaltending shake out? They will carry 3. Cycle Talbot, Mrazek, and Lyon. Leaving Cossa and Campbell in GR. - The evaluation on Mrazek. Yzerman gives Max Bultman snark saying he hopes he helps them in net. Says he is competitive, says everything is all over the place for goalies around the league. - They like that Mrazek is signed for another season. Sounds like Talbot and Mrazek will be the goalies next season. Could do something else at goal but they are comfortable with the 2 they have. - On how this affects Cossa, for the most part says Sebastian has had a really good year. Continues to improve. Will make his evaluation when GRs season is over. Would rather be conservative. If Cossa has a good stretch, offseason, and preseason he could force his way on. - Can they bring in ASP when his season is done in Sweden? Sure. They have a couple games left and has been done historically with players under contract. They will decide when his season is done - When was the decision to get a goalie made? Started looking a year ago and decided to see how the season played out. Thought the cost to get Mrazek was low. - How did Copp's injury impact the deadline? They looked at acquiring a C. Looking for an offensive guy. Couldn't do it. The higher end guys were too expensive and they aren't in that position today. - They were not going to trade 1st or 2nd round picks or high-end prospects. - Was Yzerman surprised about how the team responded to the coaching change? Pleased is how he would describe it. Lost steam coming out of the break. He didn't know what to expect but knows Todd is a good coach. - Says Florida is stronger with Jones and Marchand. Tampa got stronger and looks great. Ottawa is stronger. It's a challenge to see who gets out of the east. - Where they are looking, it should be an exciting battle and they still hope to get a wildcard spot. - They still want GR to be competitive. This season they felt Elmer and Marco needed to start in the AHL but would call guys up when needed. Says Elmer has had a positive impact. Losing Kasper and Elmer makes GR weaker. - Is bottom 6 productivity a mission? Yes. They want more 5 on 5 scoring up and down the lineup. Lucas, Dylan, Cat, Marco, and Kane have scored. Says Tarasenk has played better than his numbers show. - On Veleno, it would have been difficult to keep him in the lineup in his role with how he has played. Says Smith should be able to provide some offense that has been lacking. Smith will not be in Washington tonight. - Does holding on to picks and prospect indicate where the rebuild is? For rentals yes. If players had term of more than 1 or 2 years he was open. Says that type of deal wasn't available. - Yzerman says he understands the frustration and impatience. Fans know the game and want the team to do well. We did what we thought we could to get a better chance at playoffs. Is it Earth shattering? No. We aren't giving up picks and prospects for rentals and the hope to get in. - Carlos asks wouldn't spending a draft pick this year be worth it when you don't know what a first-round pick turns in to? Yzerman says no. The guys that are going to make us better weren't fetching just a first round pick. Using a 1st today, there wasn't even something to consider, not even a rental. - Getting a difference maker would have taken a 1st ++ and Yzerman wasn't doing that. When you sit at the draft as a team still building, not having high picks is not the way to do it. - Carlos is a 🤡, says Steve doesn't even know if he's going to be here when those picks make the team. Steve says he is going to do what is best for the organization. Plans could change but Steve isn't going to make moves because he feels he needs to save his job. - Steve wants to make the playoffs and win the cup as much as anyone. Takes full responsibility for where they are at. Going to make the best long and short-term decisions. - On having the Red and White game in GR, it's fun for the team and fans. It will shorten the TC stay by a day, - How far off until we can make a deadline splash? They are never just trying to make a splash. They have a goal they are trying to achieve. When Steve feels like he is in a position to have pieces for a long run, then they will say they are going for it and make those moves. - How do you make the team harder to play against? The players need to be more tenacious. Continue to add guys that play hard. Get size. Says the team right now is not hard enough to play against. That's why guys like Shine are coming in. - Says based on 4 Nations, whether they like it or not, fighting is going to make a comeback. And that will do it. Depressing deadline but Steve makes some solid points. We will be recording tonight! #LGRW #RedWings
