@ManBanality @Scott_Wiener I do not prefer either. Scott Wiener authored laws that deprive people of the ability to rebuild their homes in Pacific Pallisades, and leaving them vulnerable to losing their land, altogether. Scott Wiener is pure, unalloyed evil.

San Francisco’s absurd permit appeal rules allow any person to gum up things like emergency demolitions of unsafe structures. The old Coit Liquor building in North Beach burned years ago. It’s an eye sore & dangerous, but some insist this burned out husk needs to be “preserved.” No — it needs to be torn down & replaced with housing & retail, which will be so beneficial for the neighborhood. And San Francisco needs to reform its charter to put a stop to these frivolous appeals. Thank you @DannySauter for your leadership.
Danny Sauter 李爾德@DannySauter

659 Union Street Update: Emergency Demolition Orders were issued last week to safely demolish the remaining walls of the structure in North Beach. Work began, but a few days ago one individual filed an appeal. This suspends work until an appeal is heard, sometime in next month

LA City Council just voted to delay implementing SB79 (more homes near transit), and chose a plan that allows for the least new housing possible - buildings only up to 4 stories. Some of the more progressive members on the council pushed for a compromise that STILL delays SB79 but allows 7 story buildings. Blocked. SB79 still will apply, eventually, and this just kicks the can down the road. But the complacency and lack of urgency is astounding.

@AMisk23 @DianoPeters If Rwandan hospitals and roads are so great, why is there a need for Zipline at all? Your leaders understand that the quality of healthcare + transportation needs to improve, but clearly this has not trickled down to their sycophantic propagandists.

“Ok, I’ll bite” — good, because you clearly need it. First, get your facts right. Zipline didn’t start in the U.S. because Rwanda needed a smarter solution, not because we “lack hospitals.” It launched in Rwanda in 2016, delivering blood and medical supplies to remote areas where time = life. 👉 Since then: •Millions of deliveries completed •Hundreds of thousands of emergency blood units delivered •Coverage expanded to most of the country •Maternal mortality reduced because hospitals get blood in minutes, not hours That’s called innovation solving real problems. Now here’s the irony: The same U.S. you’re bragging about? Zipline is now operating there too (North Carolina, Arkansas, etc.). So if your system is “so perfect”… why are you copying the model developed in Rwanda? 🤔 Exactly. Because this was never about “better hospitals and highways.” It’s about efficiency, last-mile delivery, and saving lives faster—something even advanced systems realized they can improve. ⸻ Now let’s talk healthcare since you opened that door. In Rwanda: •Over 80–90% of the population is covered by community-based health insurance (Mutuelle de Santé) •It’s affordable, accessible, and widely used •Primary care is decentralized and actually reaches people In the U.S.: •One of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world •Millions still struggle with access or debt from medical bills So yes—you may have advanced technology. But access, affordability, and efficiency? That’s where Rwanda focused—and it shows. ⸻ And about DRC minerals… Having resources ≠ managing them well. If minerals alone built nations, the DRC would be the richest country on earth. What matters is governance, systems, and execution. ⸻ So no—Zipline didn’t come to Rwanda because we’re “behind.” It came because Rwanda: 👉 embraces innovation 👉 implements fast 👉 focuses on practical solutions that save lives And now… others are following. That’s the part you missed.

Rwanda does something and others copy. 1. The USA and Ghana copied Rwanda's use of drones to deliver medicine. 2. Ghana sent officials to study Rwanda's drainage and sanitation system 3. Rwanda hired Ethiopia's Girma Wake to run RwandaAir, and Uganda hired him later as acting CEO of Uganda Airlines. 4. Rwanda hired beautiful girls to market its airline, and Kenya did the same. 5. The UK copied Rwanda's car free day policy, which promotes public health 6. India copied Rwanda's poverty alleviation scheme.

@AMisk23 @DianoPeters Ok, I’ll bite. Zipline didn’t launch its blood delivery operations in my country (the US) because we have much better hospitals and highways. What does the DRC have anything to do with this? In any case, the global economy depends on Congolese minerals. Not exactly useless.

Living in California can almost blackpill you into being a single-issue voter, and that issue is housing. Streamlining permitting and enforcing the law so local cities can't delay or block new development is exactly what I want to hear from a candidate.

A proposed development so massive that Caltrain and developer Prologis seem afraid to show people, just yet, how big the buildings would be, gets a few more renderings this week, as the transit agency submits its application for the long-discussed Railyards project. buff.ly/axzeVTL

Our firm just filed what I believe is the first Builder’s Remedy project relying on the New Commune v Redondo Beach decision (in a city other than Redondo). Gardena has the same defective HE overlay as Redondo. As a result, the BR door has opened! Start of a new trend?

Thanks for breaking this down. There is an urgent need for greater awareness and informed action, especially among political and civil society actors. Unlike minerals, this directly concerns individual integrity. #CongoIsNotForSale neither are the Congolese people.

Santa Barbara does not want rental housing. They've fought for housing law carve outs and are helping end new rental construction with rent freezes like this. Their strategy is simple: Make it as difficult as possible to operate rental housing to discourage new apartment construction.

Santa Barbara’s rent freeze is a win for renters fighting runaway costs. Big props to CAUSE @cause805 for pushing for protections that keep families housed and communities stable. sfgate.com/centralcoast/a…

@rledbetterCPA As a CPA, shouldn’t you know how the Franchise Tax works rather than arguing with the agent like a guy trying to get a deal on a 2012 Kia Sorento?

If you think calling the IRS is bad, try dealing with California Me: Hi, I'm calling because my client got an $800 bill from the CA Franchise Tax Board Agent: That's the annual LLC tax. Me: Right but he doesn't live in California. Agent: But his LLC is registered here. Me: By accident. He checked the wrong box on a Legal Zoom form in 2019. Agent: That's still a registration, sir. Me: He's never done business in California. He's never been to California. He lives in Ohio. Agent: But his LLC has been here for six years. Me: His LLC has never been anywhere. It's an LLC. Agent: It's been here since 2019. That's $4,800. Me: For what? Agent: For being registered. Me: It doesn't do anything. Agent: It still applies to passive entities. Me: It's not passive. It has no revenue. Agent: The tax isn't based on revenue. Me: No employees. No assets. No customers. No phone number. Agent: Still $800. Me: It's literally a piece of paper. Agent: A piece of paper registered in the state of California, sir. Me: Ok fine. He wants to dissolve it. Agent: He can absolutely do that. Me: Great. So he dissolves it and we're done? Agent: He'll just need to pay the outstanding balance first. Me: The $4,800? Agent: Plus the current year. So $5,600. Me: He has to pay $5,600 to close something that never opened. Agent: He also needs to file six years of returns. Me: Returns for what? There's nothing to report. Agent: That's fine. They can be zero returns. Me: Six years of returns that say zero on every line. Agent: Correct. Me: And if he doesn't? Agent: Late filing penalties. And he can't do business ever again in California. Me: And that's a deterrent? Agent: Excuse me? Me: Nevermind. So if he ignores it it keeps running forever? Agent: Until it's properly dissolved. Me: What if he dies? Agent: The LLC survives him. Me: The LLC outlives my client? Agent: LLCs don't die, sir. That's one of the benefits. Me: Benefit for Califonia maybe. Agent: Is there anything else I can help you with today? Me: Can I speak with someone about hardship relief? Agent: Of course. That department is located in Sacramento. Me: Ok transfer me. Agent: Hardship teams don't take phone calls. Me: How do I reach them? Agent: You mail a letter to Sacramento and wait 6 to 8 months. Me: And what happens during the 6 to 8 weeks? Agent: Months, sir. Not weeks. The $800 + interest continues to accrue. Me: Brutal. He doesn't have the money. So he can never leave? Agent: But he can check out any time he likes, sir. Me: Don't.
