Water render updates in #darksouls3 lighting engine. The water optics are now better simulated using absorption and scattering functions instead of basic colors. Includes a small demo which also shows some SSR fixes as well as refraction updates.

This is the shadow guide which is computed during SHARC update pass. After LightBVH importance sampling the selected light emission is used to compute the shadow using (LNoShadows - LShadows). LShadows is available anyways through normal path tracing. The shadow guide is then used during main tracing pass to reduce the hit distance when a "shadow is detect" for that ray. The right image shows the accumulated HitT. Note that this should only be done for a "Diffuse ray path" as for specular path its crucial to use the Hit-Distance to light as is so that NRD can track specular motion and reflections.

WIP : Shadows contact hardening and better Umbra/Penumbra regions. This is done by reducing amount of blur in the spatial passes of the denoiser only where necessary, as if you reduce it everywhere in scene it introduces noise and boiling in indirectly lit dark-areas

I think this video does a good job explaining the viewpoints of the team but I wanted to make sure it was clear that I wasn't feeling up to participate yet thus not in the video. I will share my own thoughts soon but my opinions largely mirror what Alex says in this video!

Performance testing thanks to discord member Loreciao. Looks like RTX 2060 onwards should be able to hit 60 for HD as well with Quality mode. Was a bit concerned about first gen RTX cards. Specs: 2560x1080 Resolution (21:9) R7 5800x RTX 2070 Super. DLSS Quality (Preset F)

@DS2LightingMod Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but the LE PT stuff isn't available even as a beta in your upgraded patreon tier right? I'm subscribing anyway because I love your work, just wanna make sure I'm not missing a release

LE PT mode. Mostly it is reconfiguring light intensities and exposure, was adjusting the particles, as can be seen from earlier videos they were too bright due to new exposure levels, now they are scaled based on downscaled GI and fall back to scene avg luminance.
