With the hot weather we’ve been having this summer, the local insects, birds & wildlife have really been appreciating the newly completed pond beside the River Roding in Barking. I had the idea for creating one of the largest ponds alongside the river in January, & this pond was then built entirely by volunteers, using small donations from local people, with no permission, funding or assistance from government. The Environment Agency, local councils & other state bodies have done absolutely zero creation or restoration of wetlands or ponds alongside the River Roding in London over the last few decades. I (& many others around the country) are no longer content to dwell in impotent frustration at their failure, but will get on with the work of restoring Nature that must be done, with or without them.
