@QiaochuYuan I’ve been trying kryptos k4 for almost every release since o1 aswell as my own custom scaffold. Biggest issue at the moment is that the models don’t try as hard when they know it’s a famous problem

i hope there are teams at frontier labs shoving wacky stuff like kryptos K4 or the voynich manuscript into their latest models to see what happens. what other famous unsolved puzzles / mysteries like this are there

@OA_paperclips Having enough fun just exploring mutations I've found. Tempted to reimplement the core in a more familiar language to play with it further.

@OA_paperclips Thanks. I had codex get it working on my linux setup, had an issue where GLFW was defaulting to Wayland but PyOpenGL used by imgui_bundle forces X11. Simplest fix was to use `glfw.init_hint(glfw.PLATFORM, glfw.PLATFORM_X11)` when running on linux.

There are some pretty obvious ways to improve the Fluoddity algorithm's elegance and performance. But any significant change means my library of settings+ 'rule weights' becomes meaningless and I have to start off in the parameter wilderness again. I've grown attached

Claude Mellan's Face of Christ, also known as The Sudarium of Saint Veronica (1649), is one of the most technically extraordinary works in art history... The entire portrait is rendered using a single, continuous spiralling line that begins at the tip of Christ's nose and expands outward to the edges of the cloth. Mellan achieved the illusion of depth, shadow, and facial features without any cross-hatching or traditional shading. Instead, he precisely varied the thickness and pressure of the burin (his engraving tool) as he rotated the copper plate, creating "swelling" lines that darken the image where needed. The spiralling line is estimated to be approximately 150m (about 500ft) long if it were stretched out.

@nicole_clash @fuckyouiquit Would like to see the result of many trials with changed phrasing. "Bigger" is ambiguous in a way, 9.11 literally has more characters (and tokens?) than 9.9, and might be more semantically connected to versions. Does "greater" give the mathematically correct answer more often?

@yacineMTB is there anything that would stop you from running a bunch of thin wires through a bodysuit and learning movement/pose from the resistance change?

@yacineMTB Surely an even cheaper sensor could do this. A century ago they were able to detect Floyd Collins' (Sand Cave victim) breathing rate electronically from the movement of the lightbulb wire over his chest.

@TeemMe70 @SiliconStart @merissahansen17 I assumed this too, but it seems to actually be a smaller site nearby, much closer to homes: x.com/HarderSmart/st…

@AndyMasley @segyges I've seen a few people confuse this with the larger site on the other side of the highway. As best I can tell, the video was taken from this spot, and this smaller building is actually right across the street from a residential area: @38.9964347,-77.4311722,3a,69.8y,19.32h,89.67t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1st8nb8OXWWzFZ7J9S-9tYMQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D0.3344120538594524%26panoid%3Dt8nb8OXWWzFZ7J9S-9tYMQ%26yaw%3D19.324433132561094!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDUwNi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">google.com/maps/@38.99643…

@SiliconStart @merissahansen17 The data center in the OP. Neighborhood is half a mile away. Whoever recorded this should've used a decibel meter.

This is what it sounds like living next to a data center. The video below was recorded at midnight, and the data center is situated next to 100s of residential homes.

@segyges @AndyMasley I assume that most noise is coming from the generators, so I'd expect it to be quieter from the side with houses. Very weird to put it that close with so much undeveloped area in the industrial park across the highway.

This one's a completely real problem, the data center is technically under the noise threshold where the county acts but produces enough constant annoying low level hum that it's lowering quality of life for the homes nearby. A lot of the noise is coming from temporary gas turbines that will be gone once it's fully connected to the grid, but that timeline's been extended way back and could be as much as 7 years now. This is a ridiculous situation that imo a lot of places don't have good rules to govern well right now.

@AndyMasley @segyges Measured out 100m because that was the claim from the politico article, seemed impossible until I found out there was a 2nd, newer site. This one is middle-left, other location is top-right in their 4th photo politico.com/news/2026/03/1…

@tenobrus individual rather than topic followings is the main thing for me. The shape of the following list has shifted a lot over time, it's a lot easier to do that by adding and removing one person at a time. My interests change, but I get to keep the people who are still interesting.

is it just a social network artifact? something about the combination of "text-centric" and "building specific individual followings rather than topic clustering"? just something to do with the fact that all the real academics and CEOs were on here anyway?

Looking more into the plans it seems like the enormous area is mostly set aside for future use, mentions of adding a town and space for manufacturing under the same power grid, in the meantime most of it will probably stay as grazing land.

Ignoring the energy generation part, waste heat comes out to 55.6W/m^2 over the whole site. In theory if you had every chip directly under a heatsink with the right radiative surface you could cool the whole thing passively

Sam is engaging with obviously fake maps like the 2nd image. More accurate area shown in 3 & 4 (not the right location). Based on the water rights they've purchased, the whole 40,000 acres can use at most ~3x as much water as the 250 acres of alfalfa field they'll be next to.
