Allegations are surfacing again that police officers at several Gauteng police stations — including Hillbrow and Johannesburg Central — are arresting foreign nationals on a large scale, both documented and undocumented, only to release them shortly afterwards in exchange for cash. Payments of between R500 and R5 000 are reportedly being demanded. This is nothing less than extortion. It means police officers are allegedly running an illegal cash-for-freedom racket from inside police stations. This must stop! Urgent intervention is required from:    •   SAPS management    •   The National Commissioner    •   IPID    •   The Ministry of Police •Home Affairs. There must be immediate investigations, lifestyle audits, undercover integrity tests, and criminal prosecutions. Corruption inside the police is one of the biggest enablers of crime in South Africa. If we do not clean out the rot, every serious crime-fighting strategy will fail. JMPD METRO POLICE TRAINING INTAKE PROGRAM The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is offering a training program for individuals to become Metropolitan Police Officers. The intensive training will span 18 months, and successful candidates will be considered for appointment as Metro Police Officers upon completion. During the training, trainees will receive a stipend in accordance with the City's Policy and will be subject to training contracts, Academy rules, and RTMC training policy. The training will take place at the JMPD Training Academy. Due to the intensive recruitment process, the Metro Police Training is expected to commence on 1 January 2026. The initial advertisement for this training opportunity has been retracted. The post has been re-advertised in the proper City of Johannesburg online applications format. The JMPD is looking for 500 trainees for this program. These vacancies are specifically targeting youth residing in the City of Johannesburg. It is crucial to note that JMPD vacancies are not for sale, and anyone who applies will follow the same stringent process of verification. Requirements for Applicants: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria: * Be a South African citizen. * Possess a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4). * Residing within the jurisdiction of the Johannesburg Metropolitan area and providing original proof of residence. Due to the intense requirement and verification process, officers from each region will be assigned to physically verify the applicant's address.
