@eliasmakos It seemed healthy from 35-57. It seemed healthy when Bill Davis ran ON for 15 years and Lougheed in AB for pretty much the same length. I think you mean it's not good for political discussions.

@thomasjuneau Remember, with Trump (going back to his business days) he just wants to announce a deal. The details don't matter. He wants the day 1 story and that's it.

Negotiations to come will be very difficult; the US and Iran are very, very far apart. A key element in these dynamics will be that Iran perceives that Trump badly wants a deal. Expect Iran to be patient and intransigent and to play on the impatience & amateurism of the US side.

@CDNPolicyHawk It would appear he is calling on the classic (sarcasm) conservative policy of price controls.

"Canada should be raking it in right now" To be clear: Canada is raking it in right now... at a macro level. What Mr. Gunn seems to be noting is that not all Canadians are benefitting equally. Is he suggesting we should correct that through some kind of wealth redistribution?
Aaron Gunn@AaronGunn

Canada has the 4th-largest oil reserves on the planet. We should not have $2-per-litre gas. Canada's political leaders need to stop making excuses and start building. We need to build pipelines. We need to build refineries. And we need an energy policy that actually puts Canada and Canadians first! 🇨🇦

@JM_Metrailler @EricDLombardi Takes longer for cases to be heard, therefore people in jail stay in jail longer. In fact, several cases have had to be dismissed because of the Jordan Rule in relation to length of trials. This is also partly because of legal moves by the lawyers on both sides of the case.

Eric Lombardi (EricForOLP.ca) 🇨🇦🚀
Ontarians are increasingly concerned about crime, public safety, and the decline in order. Our provincial government talks tough but they have been soft on crime. Our system must show more compassion for victims by seriously prosecuting rising crime, and less for criminals.

“Police immediately recognized the man on her camera footage as a long-time local drug user who had racked up 126 convictions over a 30-year period. A judge gave him a 20-month sentence. Within 10 days of release, he broke into a neighbour’s home, Ms. Lo said.”

@DamiDina @ryancbriggs Hire more. The province announced in 2024 it was going to spend $29M to hire 190 prosecutors and 24 judges. Apparently they haven't started yet since it is in this FY budget. I think someone needs to ask what the hold up is.

@JM_Metrailler @EricDLombardi Both the overcrowding and catch and release can be attributed to the continued lack of judges and crown prosecutors, thus creating massive delays.

@EricDLombardi Ontario needs a Manhattan Project for the construction of jails and mental health institutions. (obscenely overcrowded under Ford's leadership - an underappreciated contributor to 'catch and release')

@acoyne Actually, I think the idea was that China was going to be brought in at some point, but they would not get special treatment. The US involvement was to be the counterweight, but that did not happen.

@Anthony__Koch I'd say be closer to St. Laurent. Nationalistic where needed, but also trying to find a place for Canada in the world.

The Conservatives in Canada love to invoke John A MacDonald while simultaneously rejecting and scorning nearly his entire political vision and program. If it wasn’t for branding purposes, their hero would be Laurier.

@DivebumChef I think it's fair to say 9/11 and Rwanda ended the idea of Canada needing to be the world's peacekeepers.

@JamesTate121 Canadian citizenship per se did not exist until 1 JAN 47 at the time. Being born in Ottawa would’ve made her a British subject. I don’t that was really the concern. I believe it was more to do with being born in Dutch territory… which she legally was.

Here's an interesting clash of the two laws: During WW2, the Dutch royal family was in exile in Canada, and Princess Juliana gave birth to Princess Margriet in Ottawa. To ensure the child would not automatically gain Canadian citizenship in addition to Dutch citizenship, the Canadian government created a legal exception by declaring the hospital room temporarily extraterritorial for the duration of the birth. This meant the room was treated as if it were outside Canadian territory at that time. As a result, Princess Margriet was considered solely Dutch at birth under the citizenship rules in effect. At the time of her birth, Juliana was still crown princess because her mother, Queen Wilhelmina, remained the reigning monarch until 1948.

@mikethenavyguy Quebec is an odd place to poll. It may look a tie, but don't be surprised if the seat count is heavy for the PQ. Would not be surprised to see the Liberals support comes from heavy numbers in Montreal and the Eastern townships.

@build_canada Is it creative accounting when it's using the acceptable guideline of the overseeing organization? You should have noted even Stephen Harper also cast doubt on the need to reach 2%, and that was soon after agreeing to it.

Paul Martin sold his shares of his beloved company that he owned, that he had built up from the ground. That is how much he loved Canada, respected his duty. Carney was unwilling to divest a standard portfolio.

@prairiecentrist IIRC most NATO countries do similar things with their 2% goal. In theory you could say counting costs of nuclear arsenal is kind of "accounting" since the use of them is so unlikely. Canada's offensive cyber abilities are more useful than nukes.

The U.S. Coast Guard is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and is considered a military service at all times. Guess they've been doing "creative accounting" for a really long time, eh Erin? The problem was we weren't treating the Canadian Coast Guard that way.
Erin O'Toole@erinotoole

While there is a little bit of creative accounting with the Coast Guard and a few other measures, they are minor. The govt should be applauded for making Canada relevant in NATO once again and showing support for an important alliance. Bravo Zulu. 🇨🇦 cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Canada's gest scammed again !! Our budget deficit is $78 Billion now Carney wants to spend another $60 Billion on "Military" Guess who get the biggest portion of this contract? Direct Contracts: Historically, Brookfield Global Integrated Services (BGIS) is the federal government’s #1 overall supplier, having managed roughly $16.2 billion across 600+ contracts since 2013. Defence Infrastructure: Within the military context, BGIS manages the vast majority of the Department of National Defence (DND) real estate. This includes a massive multi-billion dollar agreement to manage roughly 3,800 federal buildings, many of which are DND facilities like the Carling Place campus in Ottawa. bnnbloomberg.ca/business/polit…

Nice try. Your claim that they changed the voicemail is impossible to verify since your video with the audio has no timestamp. Fortunately, the edits are incredibly easy to debunk, anyone can call (613) 825-3422 and hear the real voicemail for themselves. The awkward pauses in your audio clip? Those are exactly where the French translations have been conveniently chopped out. To anyone reading this: call the number, listen to the real message, and you'll see his clip cuts out right where every French segment begins. Next time you want to "prove" something, post an unedited screen recording with actual timestamps. Cheers!

🚨 BREAKING Carney gets caught. RED HANDED. This morning my spruce called Carney’s Nepean constituency office: IT WAS ALL ENGLISH. No French. Not bilingual. This is the same PM who said the Air Canada CEO’s English-only condolence video showed “a lack of judgment and compassion.” The same PM who said Air Canada has “a responsibility to communicate in both official languages, regardless of the situation.” I called his office an hour ago: THEY QUIETLY SWITCHED IT TO FRENCH. I HAVE RECEIPTS. This same Parliament voted three years ago NOT to require the Air Canada CEO to speak French. Only the Bloc voted for it. They chose not to make it mandatory. Then summoned the CEO for not doing it. Two pilots are dead. A fire truck with no transponder on an active runway & one controller doing two jobs. And Ottawa spent the day policing the language of a grief video while the PM’s own office wasn’t even compliant? UNTIL HE GOT CAUGHT? Rules for thee. Never for me. Trudeau 2.0.
